Mondo Hollywood : Deserves Criterion treatment

Deserves Criterion treatment

I'm glad this is available on Hulu, but it would be really nice if this got the royal restoration & remastering treatment by Criterion or someone else. Not only would it be nice to see a more filmic presentation (hulu was in widescreen, so was this silmed on 35mm? or was it originally 1.33?). Special features could include commentary, & documentaries on Hollywood at the time & all the themes that are involved, as well as all of the reaction this film had at the time. It seems that this movie was easily dismissed as trash/shallow cult material, but I think it has more cultural relevance today as a slice of life of its day.

Re: Deserves Criterion treatment

I'd agree. A director's commentary, as well as some input from someone like Gail Zappa would be well worth having. Even a (presumably) hostile perspective from someone like Dave McGowan (author of "Weird Scenes Inside the Canyon" - a kind of Laurel Canyon Babylon) would be interesting to hear. Disappointed Jayne Mansfield fans and not-born-until-the-80s types are not going to offer the most thoughtful analysis of this patchy but fascinating film, so we'd be well advised to search somewhere other than the IMDb reviews until Criterion or some other company offer such a package.
