The Brady Bunch : Try, Try Again

Try, Try Again

This is the episode from season 5 where Jan can't find anything that she's good at. What is up with Mike Brady's wardrobe in this one? His shirts were unbuttoned almost halfway down, displaying his hairy chest and he's sporting a gold chain! Did Mike and Carol get invited to a swinging key party?

Re: Try, Try Again

That was actually an acceptable style for the average man in the 1970s. I had a high school teacher who wore his shirts like this with a gold chain. He was so hairy that he appeared to be wearing a black sweater underneath his shirts; his chest hair ended at his neck just like a black crew neck shirt. Eeewww.

I'm not crying, you fool, I'm laughing!

Hewwo.

Re: Try, Try Again

Yeah I'm a child of the 70's, but that look seem to come from left field all of a sudden on Mike Brady.

Re: Try, Try Again

It's obvious that Mike started hanging around Tank Gates a little too much when this episode was made.

I knew a guy recently who would go to the mirror and make sure his shirt was unbuttoned enough for his chest hair to show and even fluffed his chest hair, underneath a gold chain of course! Idk why people think this is a sexy look. He certainly did not look good!

Idk why people think this is a sexy look.

I prefer it to the bearded, tattooed, pompadoured hipster uniform of today.

Anything compared to the hipster look is a great look

Re: Try, Try Again

Here's my harrowing experience:

I worked for a cool company in the 90's that had the best summer parties that the entire company, both NY and NJ workers, attended. 2 years in a row we had it at a place with a lake. Well, a co-worker from my department, Lester, was pretty far into the lake, and some work friends and I were wading in and we saw Lester and wondered why someone was wearing a black t-shirt in the water, especially since it was so hot. Then he turned around and started walking TOWARD us. Yes, you heard that right. His ENTIRE BACK was all one black RUG. It looked like a bathmat you could peel right off and use immediately. You could have made 20 toupees from all that hair. A big crowd had started to gather to see this disturbing display. Not many of us could eat after that, and they were just about to serve the delicious lunches like the ones we had the previous year. Too bad they didn't serve booze at those parties...

Re: Try, Try Again

70s or not, I don't like when men wear necklaces or bracelets.

Openly displayed chest hair from a shirt is gross too. It slightly works for a Middle Eastern or Mediterranean man, but certainly not on WASPy Mike Brady!

Re: Try, Try Again

I don't mind men wearing jewelry, as long as it isn't paired with pointy collars or,wearing lots of gaudy chains, like a rapper or used car salesman.

Re: Try, Try Again

Mike was just expressing his sexuality. His open shirts, tight pants and stylish perm were all the rage among the gay disco scene he was part of at the time. Had the Brady Bunch lasted a few more years, he would have been giving Johnny Bravo a run for his money!
