The Brady Bunch : If the Brady Bunch lasted into the late 70s

If the Brady Bunch lasted into the late 70s

What if the Bradys lasted in the late 70s? Here's a few ideas for some episodes: Peter & Marcia in a disco contest, Jan joins that cult that was big in the late 70s, don't know the name of it (there was an episode about it on Three's Company and What's Happening), Bobby becomes a rebellious punk rocker, this time he plays guitar, an episode revolved around the energy crisis, and Cindy finally get the girls room to herself.

Re: If the Brady Bunch lasted into the late 70s

The Brady 6, or Silver Platters, or whatever they call their singing group would all jump on the disco craze. Even Mike, Carol, and Alice would get down and boogie.

Carol would get her own job and some of the story lines would be about women in a male dominated workplace, but all in good fun. She would have a chauvinistic, but incompetent male boss that she would always outwit and save the day... with him taking all of the credit.

Of course, in 1977, they would have an episode where Bobby dreams he's a hero in outer space with some weird looking creatures, with music that sounds a little like the Star Wars theme, but just different enough to avoid copyright infringement.

Oliver comes back to visit, but he strangely looks like Gene Simmons and brings his pals, Paul, Peter, and Ace over for dinner. Hilarity ensues.

Of course, a Halloween show with obligatory appearances by Elvira, Wolfman Jack, and a big musical number by Sha Na Na.

Re: If the Brady Bunch lasted into the late 70s

If you have the stomach to watch "The Brady Bunch Variety Hour" from the spring of 1977, there are some episodes in there of what the Brady Bunch would have been like.

Re: If the Brady Bunch lasted into the late 70s

I watched the premier episode on youtube recently. It was a rather strange concept to have the family do a variety show "in character." The funniest part of the show Greg starring directly into the camera on several occasions during the 1st episode and saying "Music is my LIFE!!!!" It seems like they were trying to make that into his catchphrase or something.

God created the domestic cat so that humans could know what it's like to caress the tiger

Re: If the Brady Bunch lasted into the late 70s

Bobby and Oliver catch The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Bobby decides to change his look a la Dr. Frank. He gets suspended for performing Sweet Transvestite at the school talent show. Mike gives his usual stern lecture.

Cindy develops a huge crush on Leif Garrett. She becomes pres of his fan club. Following in Marcia's footsteps she tries to get him to perform at her school. Leif guest stars and performs I Was Made For Dancing. Even Alice thinks he's dreamy. She and Sam decide to learn The Hustle.

Re: If the Brady Bunch lasted into the late 70s

I was also thinking that in addition to guest appearances by entertainers, they'd also have to have a few appearances from sports heroes (like with Joe Namath, Don Drysdale).

Perhaps Minnesota Fats can give Bobby some pool tips.

Re: If the Brady Bunch lasted into the late 70s

I was thinking Andy Gibb.

Re: If the Brady Bunch lasted into the late 70s

Well, I suppose Greg would be in college, but there could still be side stories involving him. Maybe he drops out and starts working a surf shop, selling dope on the side.

Marcia would also be in college by then but causes a stir by appearing in Playboy's "Girls of the Pac 8."

Peter and Jan would have graduated around '76 or '77. Peter would have graduated with high honors, delivering the commencement address and giving high praise to Mr. Price. Unfortunately, his obsession with volcanoes would lead him to take his volcano project to Mt. St. Helens, with disastrous results.

Jan seemed like she was headed towards a cult. (BTW, I think it's the Moonies you're thinking of as the big cult back in the 70s.) But then again, she showed a lot of initiative and work ethic at the ice cream parlor, so maybe she might have found her niche in the ice cream business.

Bobby may have abandoned his dreams of being like Jesse James, yet he still becomes a pool shark, a gambler, a card shark. He becomes known as "the little stinker" in certain circles.

Cindy, still wanting to follow in the footsteps of Shirley Temple, decides that she wants to go into the Foreign Service. She creates an international incident when she's caught snooping in the diary of the wife of the Soviet Premier.

Oliver disappears without trace, but somehow Chuck Cunningham mysteriously appears and is found living in the attic, in Greg's old room.

Re: If the Brady Bunch lasted into the late 70s

I could see Jan graduating with high honors. Peter not so much. He wouldn't seem so serious about his studies.

Re: If the Brady Bunch lasted into the late 70s

We might have seen:

Mike decide to remodel the house.

Carol decide to become a real estate agent.

Alice and Sam marry.

Greg decide to become a doctor.

Marcia decide to work in fashion.

Peter decide to enter the air force, work for a workaholic, and become a ladies man.

Jan decide to become a architect and meets Phillip.

Bobby decide to go to business school after college.( before dropping out and becoming a race car driver.)

Cindy decide to stop wearing curls and finish high school, and start college.

Re: If the Brady Bunch lasted into the late 70s

The idea of the Bradys going disco makes me think the show ended at the right time.

The Brady kids would have looked like the cast from Happy Days. Shoulder-length feathered hair (for the boys and girls) and big bell bottomed jeans.

Re: If the Brady Bunch lasted into the late 70s

Jan decides she HAS to outdo Marcia and her shelves full of trophies so she gets a crew cut tapes her breasts down and joins the Marine Corps in hopes of winning the Congressional Medal of Honor to shove in that bitch Marcias face. Unfortunately she gets fragged in Nam by her own troops for whining about her 'perfect' older sister.

Re: If the Brady Bunch lasted into the late 70s

Aunt Jenny could have returned and tried to get the Bradys into EST. EST (short for Erhard Seminars Training) offered seminars in the '70s to teach people to reach their potential.

Re: If the Brady Bunch lasted into the late 70s

KISS could have a guest appearance on the show!

Re: If the Brady Bunch lasted into the late 70s

Jan would have made a great cult member. She was so intense.
