Dolby 2.0 Surround question

Is it normal that if I play the original Star Wars movies on a system with Dolby Pro Logic, sound comes out of all five speakers?

Re: Dolby 2.0 Surround question

Yes. The receiver should automatically detect the Pro Logic signal, and send the mononaural sound to the back speakers. Before 5.1, there were three signals for Pro Logic, main (Stereo) front, center channel, and a mono signal sent to the back speakers. However, you'll get an advantage over the early 3.1 is that the reciever should also send the signal to the subwoofer if you have one.

Only exceptions I have found is that some 70's movies on DVD that were orginally recorded in mono to began with, use ONLY the center channel. Drives me insane.
