Marcia Wallace

Obituary

Marcia Wallace, the feisty redhead who starred as receptionist Carol Kester on “The Bob Newhart Show” and voiced teacher Edna Krabappel on “The Simpsons,” died Friday' 10/26/20013. She would have turned 71 on Nov. 1.

The actress died at her home in Los Angeles but other details remained unclear.

Wallace won an Emmy for outstanding voiceover performance on “The Simpsons” in 1992.

Born in Creston, Iowa, she moved to New York after graduating college and worked in off-Broadway productions. The role of the receptionist on “The Bob Newhart Show” was written specifically for her after she had appeared numerous times on “The Merv Griffin Show.”

After “Bob Newhart,” she went on to appear on several game shows and on “Alf,” “Full House” and “Bewitched” as well as “Murphy Brown,” “The Brady Bunch,” “Taxi” and “Murder, She Wrote.”

She appeared in more than 100 episodes of “The Simpsons” as Bart Simpson’s teacher, who eventually marries Ned Flanders.

All of 'Carol's' fans will miss her. Rest in peace.

Hi, Bob.

Re: Marcia Wallace

I really liked that lady. She endured a lot, and still seemed like such a great, fiesty, tenacious lady. She was cute, too. Loved her as "Carol"

"Happy" is the person who learns to be content.

Re: Marcia Wallace Rest In Peace

Oh man, seriously bummed out now after starting the day upbeat.

Probobly goes without saying that I'm one of
many who grew up with The Bob Newhart Show and it's quirky characters.

Marcia brought a new angle in her character of Carol, ofthe single working woman still seeking a man,she was quite possibly the last of that kind of character. I was glad when Carol did get married.

The last show I recently saw on ME-TV was where the bank robber holds Bob hostage in his office. With the notably funny scen where Bob tries to flip her and he goes "kee-yi" and of course he can't do it.

She also was excellent as Bart's teacher Edna Krabappel, which she did
for nearly 24 years, starting with "Bart The Genius" on January 14th,1990.

Her first 3 sitcom appearences were :

1. Will the Real Jan Brady Please Stand Up? (15 January 1971) - Saleswoman
2. Getting Davy Jones (10 December 1971) - Mrs. Robbins
3. Laugh, Clown, Laugh (15 April 1971) - Betty

and she was one of many funny panelists on daytime TV's "The Match Game".

I last saw her "live" on Tv here in Phoenix,in 2005/2006 in a local interview on KTVK channel 3. She was making an appearence here for a speaking engagement.

RIP Marcia and thanks for all the laughs, including Carol's.

Carol Kester Bondurant :
"Is being late a serious enough problem to see a psychologist about?"

Bob Hartley :
"Well, Mr. Hastings is a lifeguard."

Re: Marcia Wallace Rest In Peace

Wow that IS sad news. Carol Kester was my fav character (after Bob ).

I wasn't crazy about the guy Larry she married, but LOVED her paired up with Richard Schall as her "out there" writer boyfriend Don. (the guy with the feet ) "LIFE is like a hamburger...." "Oh Don, you're so deep ! "

Re: Marcia Wallace

She was fun! So man hungry in both The Bob Newhart Show as Carol, and as Ms Crabappel! May she rest in peace.
