Displays and Projectors : No computer DVI connection for new LCD TV models?

No computer DVI connection for new LCD TV models?

One of these rainy days I was in a big TV store and the sellers said that the common option to connect a PC to an LCD TV is via VGA input. What the hell is that? From what I know, DVI connection gives a clearer picture with higher overall quality. Why such monsters as "Samsung" and "Philips" go with VGA only in their latest LCD TV models? Or maybe I'm missing something and according to the newest researches VGA is better than DVI in the end?

Please respond if you know the subject.

Thank you very much and regards

Re: No computer DVI connection for new LCD TV models?

I don't know, but it probably has something to do with HDMI and HDCP--the industry probably wants HDMI to be the *only* game in town when it comes to HD digital signals to consumer TV sets (because HDMI incorporates HDCP, the high-def copy-protection scheme), and while there are HDCP-compliant DVI connections, they'd probably rather not cause more confusion. So while DVI is indeed the digital standard for computer monitor connections, they don't want it to be the standard for consumer television connections.
