Hawaii Five-O : Melody Patterson, 2nd wife of the late James MacArthur sadly passes away

Melody Patterson, 2nd wife of the late James MacArthur sadly passes away

I read online that Melody Patterson, the second wife of the late James MacArthur, (Danno) passed away late last week at the age of 66. At the yahoo.com site where this morning she was trending #1, it mentioned that Ms. Patterson's most noteworthy performance as an actress was in the mid-60's comedy F Troop.

I will remember Melody's three appearances on H 5-0. Actually 4, as years ago I spotted her in a photo on the set of an episode when she and MacArthur had begun dating.

Melody's first appearance was in the Season 2 episode of "The Devil and Mr. Frog". She played the secretary "Missy" of the shady criminal "Tot Kee" played by James Hong. In one scene together with Danno interviewing Kee, it was almost impossible not to notice the two flirting with each other - Danno smiling and seemingly checking out "Missy" from head to toe while she batted her eyes at him seemingly ready to give him her phone number if he asked. The two were engaged at the time and it could be easily suggested that perhaps MacArthur played a part in getting Melody her role in this episode.

Melody was also in the Season 6 episode of "Nightmare in Blue" playing the roommate and co-worker of the first girl, a flight attendant, (then known as a stewardess) who was murdered by John Beck's rogue cop character. That episode was further highlighted by the appearance of the stunningly beautiful Elissa Dulce who played an undercover cop and who unwittingly had a scene with Beck standing near her supposedly "stalled" car. Elissa's character was to explain to Beck that he had "blundered into a stake-out", showing him her psuedo-wrist watch, walkie talkie as she communicated with Duke acting as her back up. MacArthur and Melody were in one scene together in "Nightmare" when he interviewed her character about her roommate's murder.

Melody was also in the Season 7 episode "Bomb, Bomb Who's Got the Bomb?" playing the daughter of the psychologically flawed Senator Harlan Henderson, (the late William Windom).

However in a 4th episode, Melody or at least her photo was also detected in one scene in the Season 2 episode "Most Likely to Murder". Danno's best friend dating back to high school Lew Morgan, (Tom Skerritt) a fellow cop had been devastated by the murder of his wife. Spoiler: As it was to be revealed by the end of the episode it was Lew who in a fit of rage and jealousy due to the fact that his wife had another lover who viciously murdered her.

Trying to console Morgan, Danno invites him over to his apartment for a beer and chance to commiserate over his wife's sudden death. If one looks at the photo displayed for a few seconds on a table it is a picture of Melody, then dating MacArthur and one would have led to believe actually Danno's girlfriend. As "Most Likely" was first aired after "Devil" that season, one could surmise that the chance meeting by Danno in interviewing Missy's boss led him to ask her out and they became a couple. Although this never played out in any of the scripts.

According to info here on Melody's bio, she died of multiple organ failure. My sympathies are with Melody's family.

Here is a photo of Melody Patterson and James MacArthur together back in the 1970's. They were married from 1970 - 1977.

I'm sorry to learn of Melody Patterson's death. I think that her role in "Nightmare in Blue" was the most memorable of all her Five-O appearances. I still remember her dialogue more or less verbatim, "If she (her roommate) got into a car, it was with someone she knew she could trust!"

Re: Melody Patterson, 2nd wife of the late James MacArthur sadly passes

R.I.P. Melody.

She will always be Missy to me. That was her most memorable performance for me. Quite the hottie there too!

Connery, Moore, and Brosnan! Accept NO substitutes!

Me too. Did you know that she lied about her age to get the part of Wrangler Jane on F-Troop? She was only 16 when she got that part.

Only 66 years old? That's a shame. I did love her on F Troop. Such a pretty girl, and so charming in everything she appeared in. Thanks for the link.
