Man on a Ledge : Can Sam Wothington make a good movie?

Can Sam Wothington make a good movie?

With the exception of the Terminator movie he was in, everything I've seen Sam Worthington in has been terrible. Most notably Gash of the Tight Ones and Ham on a Lid. This dude is like the new Colin Farrell.

Re: Can Sam Wothington make a good movie?

I don't know, I don't think he's ever "made" any movies. As far as I know he's just acting in them.

Re: Can Sam Wothington make a good movie?

Depends, at least he had a consistent accent in this movie.

I guess you can add Avatar 2 and 3 to that list in a couple of years time.

Insert @V@T@R

Re: Can Sam Wothington make a good movie?

No he didn't, in this movie is accent constantly shifted from new york to Australian, never mind his hammy acting.

Re: Can Sam Wothington make a good movie?

You serious? He started out with a new york twang but it quickly fell into aussie. Sounds like Russell Crowe at times

Re: Can Sam Wothington make a good movie?

Like christofer j16 sad, he did not make those movies, because he is a Actor only.

And in Avatar he was great, i am sorry you did not like it but most of the people
that goes to movies liked it, because it made about 2,8 billion.

And allot of movies he plays in make Worldwide Hundreds of millions, like:

Terminator Salvation: $371,353,001

Avatar: $2,782,275,172

Clash of the Titans: $493,214,993

Wrath of the Titans: 301,970,083

So yes i think he is a good actor, and if people didn't like him in dose movies
(where he is the lead player actor) those movies would not make so much.

It's that simple.

Re: Can Sam Wothington make a good movie?

You're right, money talks.

Plus, I don't think that James Cameron cast Sam because he (Mr Cameron) was in a good mood when Sam Worthington had his audition for Avatar . Consider this as Breaking News: You will see Avatar 2 and 3. I'm thinking that James Cameron was quite accurate in choosing his future star for those Avatars.

As for the actor's accents,I'm bored to hear you all: Canadian accent, Britt accent, Aussie accent... For God sake, I do understand that Hollywood is in USA.

Re: Can Sam Wothington make a good movie?

What does allot mean?

You mustn't be afraid to dream a little bigger, Darling!

Re: Can Sam Wothington make a good movie?

I liked him on Rogue http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0479528/
An australian movie where he played a bad guy.

But, you're right, besides Avatar & Terminator, he hasn't make a good one

Re: Can Sam Wothington make a good movie?

avatar , wrath of the titans !!!!!!!

Re: Can Sam Wothington make a good movie?

Have you seen The Debt, he gave a very strong role in it. I like him and enjoy many of his films. I do not care a damn about the accent..Some Americans are so painstaking that they can not supposedly enjoy a movie where there is not a perfect accent.

Re: Can Sam Wothington make a good movie?

The Debt was good but it was the older version of agents who were stellar. But then again Helen Mirren,Tom Wilkinson and the rest were well regarded actors

Re: Can Sam Wothington make a good movie?

Oh, come on...
I think this film (The Debt) will depend essentially on the younger generation

Re: Can Sam Wothington make a good movie?

Yes, and i think he is absolutely no fan of Arnold Schwarzenegger, or Jet Li or jackie chan, or Jean-Claude Van Damme (only his older movies), and many more that has no good accent in American movies, some people are just acting stupid.

Re: Can Sam Wothington make a good movie?

hehehe "with the exception of the Terminator movie he was in." That was an abomination to film. Salvation was one of the most horrendous pieces of #$&$ I have seen in years, and it's about 80% due to the last 5 minutes (anyone who has seen it will remember, "take mine!" as what should be the single worst line in movie history.)

Sorry, just had to chime in there. And what's funny is that I actually enjoyed Clash, NOT because it was a good movie but because it was exactly what I was expecting: entertaining special effects fodder. Like Immortals.

Re: Can Sam Wothington make a good movie?

Have you seen Avatar?

Actually I loved Dirty Deeds http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0280605/

Re: Can Sam Wothington make a good movie?

Really, perhaps you need a hearing aid. England is not my native language but I still understand everything what he says...

Re: Can Sam Wothington make a good movie?

I was with you until the Colin Farrell remark.

Watch 'In Bruges'. Then Watch it again. Then watch phone booth.

Re: Can Sam Wothington make a good movie?

I agree.

Re: Can Sam Wothington make a good movie?

I also wonder how can Worthington be in so many movies, as if someone very powerful in Hollywood wanted him to be a huge star, whatever the price is... The question is : do people fall for this, I mean, does he have many fans ? I guess his looks and his "good guy" face make him a likable action hero for whoever doesn't mind bad acting. Because yes indeed, that guy can't act.

As for the movies he's been in, besides the decent Terminator salvation and, to some extent, The Debt (but the presence of Jessica Chastain made me very tolerant), I haven't seen him in good films either : Avatar has as much depth as his acting, the Titans are jokes for kids, Texas Killing Fields was one of the worst written films I've seen in ages, Last Night was a boring drama... I haven't watched Rogue. It looks fun.

However, as someone wrote above, I disagree totally with you when you write that he is "the new Colin Farrell". Farrell is not a brilliant actor (for example, he has recently shown his limits in Fright Nights), but still a decent one, and can be pretty good when he's well directed : In Bruges, Cassandra's Dream and the Malick are three examples that come to my mind. Anyway, in terms of charisma (I'm not even saying talent), Worthington and Farrell are like day and night.

Re: Can Sam Wothington make a good movie?

The guy has so little star quality it's painful to watch, especially in this one. And yes, the Australian accent is annoying once you've heard it.

Re: Can Sam Wothington make a good movie?

He was good in Macbeth.

Re: Can Sam Wothington make a good movie?

im trying to figure out what is soooo bad about avatar.
it was amazing.

Re: Can Sam Wothington make a good movie?

Lol gotta admit his accent is definitely Australian in most movies, which is definitely reminiscent of Russell Crowe.

Re: Can Sam Wothington make a good movie?

Sam Worthington was pretty good in Aussie B-movies like Rogue, but I think that's about his limit. Credible talents like Elizabeth Banks must spit chips at having to play second fiddle to someone like Sam. But then, he's not exactly the only bad actor on display. Ed Harris is a bit sad - a good actor who made some great films, and now turns up in any old crap. I guess he thinks, if it's ok for Al and Bobby, it's ok for me. Then there's Ed Burns who was once, I think, a leading light but who now seems resigned to playing bit parts in B-movies. Jamie Bell isn't too bad, and of course there's Genesis Rodriguez. I'm not sure about her acting ability, since her contribution seemed to be limited to ensuring good shots of her very healthy looking chest. In fact, her breasts played such a prominent role they should have had acting credits of their own. Compared to most of the other acting on display they could have received Oscar nominations.

Re: Can Sam Wothington make a good movie?

Have to strongly agree. Although Colin Farell made several good movies.

Victims, aren't we all?

Re: Can Sam Wothington make a good movie?

I think that Sam Worthington was pretty decent in this film.

Re: Can Sam Wothington make a good movie?

I agree he wasn't very good in this film, but then again this film was pretty crappy--weak script, direction.

My favourite film of Sam Worthington's is the Australian film, Somersault, also starring Abbie Cornish. He's wonderful in it, as is Cornish. It's a very heart-felt psychological story of two damaged people.

After seeing Worthington in it I thought for sure he was someone to watch. I liked him in The Debt as well, but otherwise he either chooses weak projects or is just stronger in Aussie films.

Re: Can Sam Wothington make a good movie?

I love his movies. I think he's a great actor. I especially like Man on a ledge :) It was very creative and had me interested in, just like many other movies he was in

Re: Can Sam Wothington make a good movie?

Since everyone seems very polarised about his acting, I'd suggest checking out a documentary 'the battle of long tan' (a significant battle, involving heavily outnumbered Australian soldiers during the Vietnam war). Worthington is the main narrator of the documentary, and it would be hard to suggest anyone else could have done a better job. Not every actor would be right for that sort of job, and certainly his accent fit perfectly there if nowhere else :)

Re: Can Sam Wothington make a good movie?

hahaha omg yes I feel the same way about this Dbag, he's extremely annoying in that colin ferrel way, I certainly wish he would drop off the Hollywood radar and stop him from making these *beep* movies.

and yes I did LOL @ Gash of the Tight Ones and Ham on a Lid, hahahha! the fact there is a movie called "man on a ledge" and that its not a comedy is very strange, and everyone knows the original clash of the titans is a far better film, with a much much more handsome Persius, then the *beep* remake.

Realism, Remakes and Unnecessary Sequels are ruining movies!

Re: Can Sam Wothington make a good movie?

Sam Worthington doesn't "make" movies. He's an actor, not a film producer, director or screenplay writer!

Re: Can Sam Wothington make a good movie?

Terminator:Salvation was terrible. MOAL is actually good.

Re: Can Sam Wothington make a good movie?

he is a sh-t actor like channing tatum. wooden and emotionless

Hello seestra, nice to see you again.
