House II: The Second Story : This could NEVER be labeled as a horror (not bad ,however)

This could NEVER be labeled as a horror (not bad ,however)

I'm sorry but there is absolutely no way this could be classified as a horror film! This is a straight comedic adventure film with some horrific elements in it. This sort of thing seems to be quite common among many fantasy/adventure type films. The villains are always something bad ass and/or scary, just like this film. Still a good movie I would say. It's quite fun to watch, no doubt. The box is a bit misleading, and the film is definitely not up to par with the first. It just happens to be the sequel to the first so its given the same scary looking cover art as the first.

Re: This could NEVER be labeled as a horror (not bad ,however)

This is more adventure/fantasy/comedy movie like Army Of Darkness was.

Yep, I agree. Still a good movie though. I might even prefer it to the first now that I think about it!!!

Oh, Denise shooby doo, I'm in love with you, Denise shooby doo

Re: This could NEVER be labeled as a horror (not bad ,however)

I actually agree with you. I've tried repeatedly to watch the first one just to see if I'd like it any more than the initial time, and I still think it's not that great of a flick. I still like House II as much as I did as a kid.

This movie might be more horror adventure than the first one(it IS kinda like Army of Darkness in tone), though the first one was rather tame too. Both are basically horror(or supernatural) themed movies that are kinda alright for kids to watch. I tend to call these type movies "Gateway Horror" flicks. They aren't really kiddie flicks, but they are alright for kids to watch because some of the gags are right up their ally. I'd count The Gate as a another one(though, oddly enough, for a cast of children, The Gate is more scary than both House movies combined).

That's what I thought watching this for the first time last night, no matter how scary the bad guy Slim is supposed to be.

What do you think this is, a signature? It's a way of life!

Re: This could NEVER be labeled as a horror (not bad ,however)

I just got through watching this movie and yeah, it's not a horror movie in the least, it's basically a kid's adventure movie (albeit one that features a woman in pink panties in one scene)

however, it's still a pretty cool movie, I liked it, John Ratzenberger was the man and it was hilarious to see such a young Bill Maher

I wonder if the producers of the first House learned that it was popular with kids so they decided to make this sequel more directly aimed at kids?

p.s. does anyone know if this was released theatrically?

Re: This could NEVER be labeled as a horror (not bad ,however)

IT's basically a fantasy adventure with mild horror elements.

Actually not a bad flick though.

BUT...I've seen Disney movies that are scarier than this. Hell, Pirates of the Caribbean is scarier and more violent than this movie! Even Harry Potter movies have more scares and violence than this movie!
