Favorite Sporting Scenes in Non-Sports Movies

Here are a few of mine...

-The golf game between James Bond and Auric Goldfinger in Goldfinger, where Bond hustles the villain and his caddy Odd Job, who are caught cheating.

-The football game in The Wanderers that devolves into an ultra-violent brawl (with the added bonus of the Wongs' martial arts skills on display).

-Any of the boxing matches in Snatch, but especially the first bare-knuckle fight where Gorgeous George's face is broken.

-The wrestling match between the traditionalist relic Gregorious (played by real life Greco-Roman Champion Stanislaus Zybyszko) clashing with "young turk" The Strangler (played by the inimitable character actor Mike Mazurki) in Night and the City.

There's a lot more, these are the few I can think of right now...

I love the football and ping-pong moments in Forrest Gump. That's what came to mind immediately. Also thought the little race in the film version of The Little Rascals was nicely done, and of course there's the chariot race in Ben-Hur... I think that can be considered sport...

Hands down its "Clerks" when they play Hockey on the roof

Re: Favorite Sporting Scenes in Non-Sports Movies

Haha Hockey on the roof was awesome.

I know its a sports movies but its not the main sport. I loved Michael Irvin playing basketball with Adam Sandler in Longest Yard.

In A Few Good Men, Tom Cruise does some BP, and also later in the movie he's watching baseball on TV. I almost want to include it in my fav. baseball movies list.

I also agree on the Goldfinger, awesome scenes!

When The Odd Couple came out, I thought it was so cool that when Felix diverts Oscar's attention in the pressbox, that we can see a wide shot of the Mets turning a triple play behind him.

I guess the scene was filmed before a 1967 Pirates-Mets game and at first Roberto Clemente was supposed to ground into the Triple Play. I've seen accounts that Clemente declined or that he did several takes, but was too fast to make it look real. So, Bill Mazeroski was paid $100 to be the hitter. Seems paltry, even for then.
