Re: her name?
I used to dance with her before she moved to California, and back then it was pronounced Ka-tee-ya Pe-vec (both e's are like in men and the c is like in car)
Re: her name?
I just only know that Dutch can use IJ as Y
example:
Dirk Kuyt (Kuijt)
or
Ruud van Nistelrooy (van Nistelrooij)
so,
Probably Ka-tii-ya.

Re: her name?
I pronounce it "Katija Pevec." How do you pronounce it?
Re: her name?
Does anyone know where are her parents from, because in my country, Slovenia, both Katija and Pevec are common names.
Re: her name?
My wife is from south poland and said that the sound of the name is common, but not the spelling. They have the same first name.
Re: her name?
my cousin spells her name the same way but its pronuced Kat-e-ja.
Re: her name?
It's ca-ti-ya, ca- like "car", -ti- like "tip" and simple -ya.
Pe- like "pet", -ve- like "very" and -c like zz in italian (pizza).

Re: her name?
All Slavic countries have the name "Katija", but this spelling is the Croatian spelling. In Croatia her name would be pronounced KA-tee-ya, but the stress would be very strongly on the first syllable, and the second two would be pronounced together, barely distinguished. "Pevec" in Croatian is pronounced Pe-vets. The "c" is a "ts" in standard Croatian, just like the end of "hats."
However, if she grew up in America, her family probably pronounces it Pevek.
So as I think about this, the first poster, who used "zz" from "pizza" was basically saying the same thing. Why am I wasting my time and yours? Should I bother to post this?
