Romance : Nicholas Sparks

Nicholas Sparks

what do you think of the romances based or adapated from his books and what do you think of the trailer The Best of ME Which is his most recent book turned to film?

personally the only one ive loved is The Notebook though i did like the otehrs except for The Lucky one.

for his mosr recent well the best of me looks preety good its gonna be inetersting to have 4 leads with couples one for people who lioke more mature actors and one for the Twilight generation lol.

though i perffer my much adult couples on this one the younger has a better chemistry from what i see on the trailer

Re: Nicholas Sparks

I'm not a fan in general. I kind of liked Safe Haven but more in a "OK way to spend 90 minutes" way than in a "wow this is good" kind of way. I tend to find his work pretty formulaic. Plus, I often feel like he's trying to manipulate me emotionally. If I'm going to cry and get emotional I want it to be natural, not so forced.

Re: Nicholas Sparks

yes he is pretty formulatic, all his films are way too similar but i dont think he is emotinally manipulative. its just that his formula is so obvious that you know he is gonna have a tragic event to make teh love story more romantic and intense.

The Notebook is the only one which doesnt feel that way and with My girls ive learned to like them but the thing is when you see one you have seen all the others.

all are set on small town where two people fall in love but their romance is fobidden they work thnigs out and end up together.

Those films are done for eye candy not much for the story. after all the huge fans of those are the same girl who think twilight is the most romantic film ever.

but like is aid the notebook does standout and its not that similar to the others.

Re: Nicholas Sparks

Well I think that often he introduces that "tragic event" in such a way that seems designed to make the audience feel a certain way. He makes sure that there is at least one scene where the lovers talk about how lucky they are to have met/found each other. The music often plays a "start crying now" kind of tune. I think all that is designed to evoke a certain emotional reaction in the audience.

I think The Notebook was one of the better Nicholas Sparks films but even that I didn't warm up to.

Re: Nicholas Sparks

Sorry to answer so late and I want to make it clear I'm not fan of his films in general I just loved the Notebook.

Like I said I don't think he is emotionally manipulative, his stories have many other flaws and flicks are way too corny and like I said all look the same but emotionally manipulative is the one that never came to my mind

His films are cheesy, predictable, formulatic and way too focused for audiences between 12-20 year old girls and who knows how many other problems they have.

With exception of the notebook which truly qualifies in my top 10 romances i consider all the other huge guilty pleasures because I admit enjoying them but I would never consider them great romances.

The only ones who are fans of those are the same girls who think the twilight saga is the best romance ever, all others who like them think of them as guilty pleasures.
