Carrie : Who was Carrie's father?

Who was Carrie's father?

Are we given any information about Carrie's father from this film or the original Stephen King novel?

Re: Who was Carrie's father?

It was not their own cult. They were Shakers a made up shaker like church or at least Margaret was, and shakers do not allow sex even for married couples. Margaret expected they would live as brother and sister as couples who join the shakers are supposed to do but after a while Ralph had other ideas. Sometime Margaret says it was rape and sometimes she says she gave into temptation and enjoyed it

Re: Who was Carrie's father?

How do Shakers have kids? Turkey Baster?

After all, they need more and more people to keep making the furniture!

Re: Who was Carrie's father?

Hence they have all but died out

They grew by recruitment sometimes of whole families with kids, married couples who joined were not supposed to have sex any more so they also adopting orphans

Alice Cooper

Re: Who was Carrie's father?

I don't think it is ever mentioned in the film. I've read the book so long ago, I don't remember.

But I've always gotten the distinct feeling that Carrie's mother was an abused child. It could be very likely that she was abused by her father, brother or an uncle. Hence why she felt confused/ashamed that she was aroused during her abuse and why she was sure Carrie was so damned (child of incest).

Re: Who was Carrie's father?

In the film Carrie says that the father left them.. In the novel, he is identified as a man named Ralph White who was a construction worker.. he died in an accident before Carrie was born..

Re: Who was Carrie's father?

I don't remember him being mentioned but from what Carrie's mother described, he sure seemed like an a$$hole.

There lies his crown in water deep, till Durin wakes again from sleep.

Re: Who was Carrie's father?

During the dinner scene, after Carrie slams shut all the windows, her mom says of the devil 'He entered your father and carried him away!'

Carrie replies after chuckling, 'He ran away, Mama.'

'The devil tempted him.'

'He ran away with a woman, Mama. And everybody knows that.'

Re: Who was Carrie's father?

He was a man that Margaret met in her 20s named Ralph White. He was universally feared by basically the entire town, as he had an intense personality and a mean face.
He also was known as a religious fanatic of sorts, he even carried a gun & a Bible with him to his construction job every single day.
The Bible was for his coffee break & lunch, and the gun was in case he met the Antichrist while at the job.
One of the townspeople even said that one didn't even want to stick their tongue out at him when he turned his back...he was that scary.

I'd say this cloud is Cumulo Nimbus.
Didn't he discover America?
Penfold, shush.

Re: Who was Carrie's father?

I always assumed he was the devil himself, disguised as Ralph White, hence Carrie's powers.

Re: Who was Carrie's father?

While the powers' origins are never revealed, its also not implied that they came from the Devil either.
Margaret only says this because she's a religious nutcase who can't fathom where 'else' such abilities could have come from.

To those who believe and/or write about the subject, the opinions vary.
Some believe the abilities are 100 percent natural, like any other talent.
