The Visitor : It's on TCM right now
Re: It's on TCM right now
I've been watching this for 1/2 hour now trying to make heads or tails of this and all I get..is the bird.
Oh goodnessis that Shelly Winter's channeling Mary Poppins?!?!? This film is more of a goof-strange-riot than "The Baby".

Re: It's on TCM right now
This is weird, but The Baby is incredible!
People mentioning bizarre scenes, a gun for a kids gift, loaded, and she THROWS it on the table? Not only that, Glenn Ford was bugged man, REALLY bugged!

Re: It's on TCM right now
Never even heard of it - a priceless/bizarre timebomb.
Weird-ass mix of actors: several legendary - and the 2 female leads essentially disappeared.
Maxwell Smart: Ive always wondered why someone would work in a morgue.

Re: It's on TCM right now
Dagnabbit! I didn't see this on the schedule until an hour after it'd started. From the comments, I'm betting I wouldn't have been able to understand what's going on any better had I started watching this from the very beginning.

Re: It's on TCM right now
I missed the first 45 minutes but when I saw a unusually young looking lance henriksen I started watching. I thought missing half the movie was the reason I'm so confused.
Re: It's on TCM right now
Yup, that young Lance Henriksen hooked me, too.

Re: It's on TCM right now
Seeing the beginning of the movie won't help make any more sense.
Re: It's on TCM right now
I'm not sure what people are so confused about when watching this film. It might be strange, but the storyline is pretty straight forward. What don't people understand?

Re: It's on TCM right now
Well then the movie succeeded in what it was meant to do. It might have been somewhat of a rip off of other horror films of the time, but none of those films possess the same kind of off the wall, creepy quality as "The Visitor." Seriously I cannot believe that this film doesn't have more of a cult following.

Re: It's on TCM right now
What. The hell. Was that? I feel like I've been on a really bad acid trip and there's no first aid tent to run to. And how, how did they manage to get all those big actors to be in this travesty? I mean, John Huston, Mel Ferrer, Glenn Ford, Shelley Winters how the mighty have fallen. It almost makes Joan Crawford's role in 'Trog' Academy Award caliber.
Wow.

Re: It's on TCM right now
The best I have: the guy that produced/wrote it - had too much money laying about and wanted to meet some famous people. The "story" didnt require all those names - and "all those names" certainly knew how to read/assess a script. The names in theory - would help box office - in theory.
The near end sequence - just got weirder and weirder. Then it went strange/bizarre.

Re: It's on TCM right now
So, the guy at the end? He is supposed to be Jesus, right?
Re: It's on TCM right now
yeah it opened there also - with Huston being dispatched to Earth

Re: It's on TCM right now
Was the little girl always evil or did she become evil for some reason? Did the first 45 minutes in any way at all explain any of what happened?
Re: It's on TCM right now
Yeah, that was Jesus. Galactic Jesus, I presume, but Jesus. Don't ask me what else was going on, though. I'm not even sure the actors knew what was going onthe director sure as hell didn't.

Re: It's on TCM right now
We must be the chosen ones to have been dragged into this miasma of a mismatched movie. If they would have called it Zombie Plan 9 Battleship Earth it would have made about as much sense.
I kept thinking over and over, this is where great acting careers go to die.

Re: It's on TCM right now
I saw "horror/scifi" with Huston, Lance et al and figured this had to be a GREAT movie - in that "not so much" sense.
The girl was evil at start - Omen stuff. Whatever.

I laughed for 6 hours over this post. Bravo!
When this was FINALLY over, I was thinking that the director watched "The Exorcist", "2001", "The Omen" (The Original and the last one only), "The Fury", Alfred Hitchcock's "The Birds", "Star Wars - A New Hope", Jacqueline Suzanne's "Once is Not Enough" and "Jesus Christ Superstar" (And used some guy who combined the music of all of these films too to make a soundtrack) and said, "I can take a little from all of these, and can come up with one fabulous original film, especially if I can get old Hollywood to sign on!"
But darn, Lance Henriksen did look good back then
And Franco Nero as Jesus was hot toowhen I was little, Franco Nero was ALWAYS hot..

Re: It's on TCM right now
I've watched The Exorcist, 2001, The Omen, The Fury, and Star Wars - ANH, but never in a million years would I have penned the script for The Visitor! lol. There are a lot of "bad" movies that I really like, including Plan 9 From Outer Space, but The Visitor is not one of them.
John Huston as the arbiter of The Inter-Galactic Jesusand his lines? Noah Cross must have had a mortgage payment due to sign on for this one.

Re: It's on TCM right now
I'm with you. I like a lot of 'bad' movies, too, but this wasn't enjoyable for me. The girl didnt seem to be directed right.
Then there was just too much random stuff.
There were some cool visuals/shots.
Explain this random:
At the mall/skating rink scene - they cut back and forth to John Huston walking down stairs or an escalator. He is slowing progressing closer to the camera, but at one point it cuts back and it looks like he is at the top again. Why?
Another scene:
The mom is going crazy pushing her wheelchair in circles. Shelley Winters watches from up above, even calls out, but never simply walks down the stairs. Why? I don't think she would be afraid of the mom, as the mom never did anything violent.
Too much random stuff like this, and I'm sure there are more, but I would have to write while watching and that means I would have to watch it again. Ha.

Re: It's on TCM right now
One thing, in this Universe, that makes me sad is panning a movie. I'm completely enamored w/ film, and I know how difficult it is to create any film, even a piece of junk, so I'm bummed when I run into something I can't enjoy on any level. My enjoyment is notoriously subjective, but I'm sincere when I say, "I want to enjoy this film."
I even found enjoyment/entertainment when William Shatner was chased and threatened by spiders in Kingdom of the Spiders!
What went wrong w/ this film? I agree that random incoherence is at the top of the list. I thank TCM for letting me view this project; I watched till the bitter end. I felt it was my duty.
