The Visitor : Mother driving paralyzed

Mother driving paralyzed

If the mother was paralyzed from the waist down, how on Earth was she able to drive a car??? I know it sounds stupid to worry about something like that in a movie full of mistakes, plotholes and incoherences, but I just find it hard to believe that no one involved in the making of the film realised such an obvious mistake! And she appears driving a car not just once, but a couple of times!

Still, I really enjoyed this big mess of a film. God bless the 70s.

Re: Mother driving paralyzed

Dude, there are many who drive with out the use of legs. It just takes specialize equipment

Re: Mother driving paralyzed

They didn't show her using any of that equipment.

Re: Mother driving paralyzed

No, they did not. In fact they showed her driving with both hands on the steering wheel. No hand operated accelerator or brake or anything like that.

In a normal movie, this would have been a glaring error. Here, it makes about as much sense as anything else.

Re: Mother driving paralyzed

Maybe she used a cut broomstick to handle the gas & break.
Or she hired a midget to handle the pedals?

Re: Mother driving paralyzed

Yes, but they showed her with a telephone in the car which implies first (I guess), that the car was customized, and second, that they would have the money for the necessary paraplegic accessories.

Re: Mother driving paralyzed

She has other ways of squeezing things.

Re: Mother driving paralyzed

We think alike.

Re: Mother driving paralyzed

lol! Movies that are "this bad" highlight the fact that even if your opus has Towering Talent like John Huston, Glenn Ford, Mel Ferrer, and Shelly Winters, the "support" behind the lens the director, writers, producers, cinematographer, editor, AD, SD, MD, AD, PM, VE, SE, CnED, and craft services actually "make" a "good movie".

This film did not have the "support" behind the lens. It's an utter train wreck of preposterous proportions. :)

Re: Mother driving paralyzed

LOL! If you really think that this movie is as bad as you say it is, then you obviously haven't seen that many "bad" movies.

Re: Mother driving paralyzed

Paraplegics can drive cars. There are hand controls to work the gas and break, and you keep them right by the wheel.

Re: Mother driving paralyzed

Oh for Pete's sake! Did you even read the previous posts?

Re: Mother driving paralyzed

Who's Pete and why should I care? Surely that's a strange thing to say.

Re: Mother driving paralyzed
