I found this movie to be quite disappointing, simply because the original is perfection. That being said, there is one scene in this version that I found to be quite touching that the original didn't have.
While M'Lynn and Shelby were in the hospital preparing for the kidney transplant surgery, Shelby is breaking down. "What are we doing?" The gravity of the situation of her realizing what she is putting her mother through was intense. And, I loved how M'Lynn responded to her daughter. Something like "Most mother's only get to give life to their children once, but I'm lucky, I get to do it twice."
"So shines a good deed in a weary world."

Yeah that was a touching scene. Shelby had so much strength yet sh was in pain, so her breaking down in front of her mother made her act out irrationally.
