The Evil Dead : I prefer this over Evil Dead 2

I prefer this over Evil Dead 2

I know Evil Dead 2 is universally known as the best Evil Dead film, is there anyone else, like me, who prefers this?

Re: I prefer this over Evil Dead 2

Thought part 1 was way better then 2 which has more of a comedic element to it.

People who ignore history are doomed to repeat it.

Re: I prefer this over Evil Dead 2

I personally feel that ED1 is the best of the trilogy, purely for the fact it focuses more on the horror aspects than the comedy that the sequels focused on. It had the right amount of comedy whilst still focusing on the terror and situation of Ash and co.

Re: I prefer this over Evil Dead 2

I have to say so, yes. Even without the classic chainsaw hand bit, I found myself liking 1 a lot more when I finally went through them all recently. It's just one of those things I guess!

Re: I prefer this over Evil Dead 2

I dont know exactly why I prefer 1 over 2 either, I doubt its even that I would prefer horror over comedy because I like films such as Braindead and Drag me to hell, which had both. I think the original Evil Dead has a certain charm to it, which I dont feel is in the second film as much.

Re: I prefer this over Evil Dead 2

Definetely this one, i only like 2 and 3 because it continued the story of 1.

Re: I prefer this over Evil Dead 2

Evil Dead 2 was great, but i agree with you OP :) The first is the best to me and always has been <3 it has some genuinely scary moments whereas 2 has a lot of comedic scares

Re: I prefer this over Evil Dead 2

I'm with you. ED 2 would've been greater if Ash had more time with himself in the cabin. Once the hillbilly couple and professor's daughter show up, it starts going downhill.

I couldn't agree more with this.

Re: I prefer this over Evil Dead 2

I always liked the first best. The second is good but imho doesnt match the original when it comes to sheer terror

Re: I prefer this over Evil Dead 2

The second movie dos'nt come close. Played much more for comedy value. It's also basically an inferior remake of the first.

Re: I prefer this over Evil Dead 2

I agree.

I'm a die hard horror fan though. Slapstick isn't scary to me.

That first movie, parts of it still scare me! Loved it.

Re: I prefer this over Evil Dead 2

Evil Dead 2 is my least favorite of the films. I still watch it every now and then but I prefer the original and AOD.

Re: I prefer this over Evil Dead 2

The Evil Dead is where it's at. Dead By Dawn was fun and definitely works as a horror comedy but it lacked the rich atmosphere and absolutely savagery of the original. The original also featured by far the best score. I'm not big on Army Of Darkenss at all...just too damned goofy. The remake sucked balls.

Well damn. 2/10? I prefer the original when I want to be scared, but in terms of entertainment, I prefer the second film and Army Of Darkness.

Did you exchange a walk on part in the war, for a lead role in a cage?

Agreed, I preferred the first but ED2 is still pretty damn awesome!

Re: I prefer this over Evil Dead 2

I know lots of people who prefer the straight up horror of The Evil Dead. However, I prefer the absolute absurdity of the sequel

Re: I prefer this over Evil Dead 2

I like the first more. It's more straight horror with a couple moments of lightness/humor (like when Ash fakes being asleep before giving the girl the necklace). I love the low budget look and DIY special effects.

Re: I prefer this over Evil Dead 2

I think this is funnier and lighter in tone, I like em both for different reasons

Re: I prefer this over Evil Dead 2

I've always felt weird because Evil Dead 2 is actually my least favorite of the trilogy.

Even the most primitive society has an innate respect for the insane.

Re: I prefer this over Evil Dead 2

I just saw Evil Dead 2 for the first time last night and found myself enjoying it just as much as the first one, but for completely different reasons.

Part 1 is a very good horror movie (one of the most nerve-wrecking ones I have ever seen), while part 2 is a very good comedy. I thinks it is fantastic that they are so obviously part of a series, yet they are so utterly different in tone.

Can't wait to see Army of Darkness. Let's hope it can equal or surpass the quality of the first two films.

Re: I prefer this over Evil Dead 2

I like this one better too. I do like the second, but i was shocked to learn most fans like that one best.

Re: I prefer this over Evil Dead 2

The horror in ED1 was great but does anyone think if they had a better budget for more better gore and makeup, would it be more scarier? Or do you think it was made that way for a comedic effect?

Re: I prefer this over Evil Dead 2

I liked Evil Dead 2, but it felt like a polished, yuppy version of the first film. The Evil Dead is just a raw, unrestrained horror film with subtle dark humor. Don't get me wrong; Evil Dead 2 is a great film, but like two other posters here said it's less enjoyable than 1 and AOD.

Re: I prefer this over Evil Dead 2

I preferred the first one to the second one. I've not seen the third one.

Re: I prefer this over Evil Dead 2

I agree. This one is 100% creepy and I love it. ED2 is partly comical and fails to horrify me, it's just ok. AOD, forget it, but 12-year-olds love it.

I love all three, but I agree; the first is still the very best, by far.

Re: I prefer this over Evil Dead 2

Really? I thought most people preferred the first film. I like Evil Dead 2 a bit more for the comedy but this one is classic as well.

Re: I prefer this over Evil Dead 2

Evil Dead is one my favorite movie of 1980s.
And also my favorite Evil Dead poster is Evil Dead 2. lol

Re: I prefer this over Evil Dead 2

I found Evil Dead 2 to be a bad parody of the first and a bad movie in general.

Re: I prefer this over Evil Dead 2

Evil Dead 2 seemed like they wanted to remake Evil Dead.
As if they disregard the original and redo the series where Evil Dead 2 is the start of the series.

Re: I prefer this over Evil Dead 2

I liked 1 WAAAY better, I don't watch horror films to laugh and if there is humor I like it to be pitch black where I laugh cause I'm twisted not cause the director wants me too. What happened here is raimi made this as a straight horror film because it was low budget and pretty absurd some people who like dark humor found it funny. So then he remade this film but pretty much as a straight comedy and I thought it was pretty much shyt as was the other comedy he made for a 3rd film. Drag me to hell was in the vein of the original evil dead it still scares you with some dark comedic moment, thats where its at!

Re: I prefer this over Evil Dead 2

I guess if your a horror purist but 2 is what it's universally known for and is much more of a pop culture reference than any. Sam Raimi owes his career to the evil dead 2 remake.

Re: I prefer this over Evil Dead 2

Even though I saw Evil Dead 2 before this one and am usually sentimental about the first in a series I see regardless of order, this Evil Dead (1981) is the best in my opinion. Ash has characters his own age in it who are friends and the discovery and mystery aspects are stronger than Evil Dead 2.

I recently rewatched Evil Dead 2 after a 25- year hiatus and was disappointed in it. I own the Evil Dead (1981) DVD and it gets re-watch time more than most of the other horror DVD's I own.

The creepy aura of ED is well above EDII.

In a horror frame, it's way better than EDII.

Re: I prefer this over Evil Dead 2

This one beats two which in turns beats three.

Re: I prefer this over Evil Dead 2

I also greatly favour the original over the watered-down Evil Dead II and consider it to be the greatest horror film of the 80s. There really is nothing else quite like this film.

Re: I prefer this over Evil Dead 2

what did evil dead two water down besides the tree rape scene , which to me was a bit much and out of context. but if they did add it I wouldn't be bugged.

Re: I prefer this over Evil Dead 2

I VASTLY prefer the original to any of it's sequels.

Re: I prefer this over Evil Dead 2

to me I love one and two in the same way I love kill bill. I consider it a two parter. but if anything evil dead two is just evil dead one with a bigger budget. that's all really.
