Halloween III: Season of the Witch : This deserves WAY more than 4.8

This deserves WAY more than 4.8

Come on people - what are you thinking.

Look at the standard of horror films churned out now - CGI weekend efforts - without a remotely credible script or point to them, and they aren't even made by film makers - just marketing twats with digital cameras and an *beep* in a bedroom somewhere who has adobe after effects. They don't even bother having actors either these days- Wanknado 11: The rigid sock

I saw Halloween 3 when it was first released - and I have to admit I was absolutely gutted that it didn't feature Michael Myers - but now that I'm not 11 years of age - this is actually a really fun B-Movie that combines hokey Sci-Fi, Horror and Witchcraft - with some quality actors and some gore-tastic FX. And a superb score from John Carpenter and Alan Howarth.

It's really well written - imaginative - atmospheric - creepy - and made by actual artists and film makers - suspenseful and a knowing sense of humour - mature enough to be totally satirical of consumerism; something that George A Romero was lauded for in horror with Dawn of the Dead just 4 years earlier!

This is also easily THE most John Carpenter-esque film EVER made - that is not actually directed by the man himself - a total homage.

Even being critical of it's hokey shortcomings - the bicycle bell as part of a clockwork sneezing android, the weird insect-based magic deaths caused by the masks - which I still don't understand as neither Stonehenge in wiltshire or south Wales where the stones are from, or anywhere in Ireland contain deadly snakes/spiders etc

But it's still a way better than an average film and deserves a 6 or 7

Re: This deserves WAY more than 4.8

Agreed. The premise of this is still fresh, especially in comparison to all the retreads and $%^& that have come out horror wise in the last decade. It's almost like Hollywood hasn't had an original thought in 2 decades.

I think the witchcraft aspect helps with the suspension of disbelief needed for the masks to work. Magic doesn't have to be logical.

Re: This deserves WAY more than 4.8

What I have come to like is that when watching the marathon on Halloween it's a nice break away from Michael Myers. I hated that years ago but have come to appreciate it now.

Re: This deserves WAY more than 4.8

I was really surprised by the low rating. I was expecting at least a high 5 or low 6. This is a movie that really needs to be reevaluated

You all have the ability. Vote it up

Re: This deserves WAY more than 4.8

I gave it an '8'.

Re: This deserves WAY more than 4.8

I agree! This is one of the most underrated orginal horror movies ever!

Re: This deserves WAY more than 4.8

I agree. I actually like that they broke from the Michael Myers formula. That's pretty daring, especially when you consider what movies are now. Do we really need to see Michale Myers in EVERY movie? Of course not and I applaud them for trying to create a series of various stories around Halloween. Slasher movies are dime a dozen especially the sequels.

Re: This deserves WAY more than 4.8

Agreed!!
This deserves at to be at least 6.8 or more (in IMDB standards).

Re: This deserves WAY more than 4.8

I agree SO much. I remember first seeing this as a kid as part of the Halloween marathon, and was a bit puzzled by the lack of Michael Myers and eventually just dismissed it. But having gotten around to seeing it again a year or two ago, I was like, "What was I thinking? This movie's *beep* awesome! 😜" I love a movie whenever it had an Invasion of the Body Snatchers feel to it, and this definitely has it. I would love the idea of a Halloween-themed anthology, you could pretty much do anything with it. Such a damn shame audiences back then didn't think of that.

I'm gonna give this movie a 10, because *beep* it, why not?

Re: This deserves WAY more than 4.8

I happen to like it, but at times it feels like some scenes are even BELOW B movie quality.

Couple that with the original and it's sequel being A films, it's just kicked to the curb.

Re: This deserves WAY more than 4.8

I agree, it's free on demand and I've watched it again and then again the next night. Something about it makes it interesting and unique.
