Rocky III : mick letting rocky think he was good
Re: mick letting rocky think he was good
It was not "out of character". He loved Rocky like a son and he knew there was only so much damage Rocky could take and he ideally wanted Rocky to retire after becoming champ but he knew he could not get Rocky to do that so he carefully picked the lesser opponents to minimize the damage that might happen to him. How is loving and taking care of Rocky out of character?
And his opponents WERE professional boxers they just were not the ABSOLUTE BEST like Lang or Apollo caliber. By conventional standards they were total bada$$es. One of them was the German boxing champion.

Re: mick letting rocky think he was good
Rock should have been fighting the #1 contenders ...I forgot about his bad eye maybe mick was protecting it. But it's not micks job to have rock fight cans, it's micks job to prepare rocky to fight whoever it is theyre matched against. But the had to set up the match w Lang to have rock doubt himself
Re: mick letting rocky think he was good
I understand and agree with the posts on this subject...buttttttt it's FUNNY...how they talked so much trash to Tommy Gunn and said "You're a paper champion...you're no Rocky". That's where being liked/loved and favortism comes into play.
Re: mick letting rocky think he was good
this guy doesnt obviously understand boxing at all im a professional mma fighter and boxer you dio not fight cans when you are the champo your coach manager cant always pick your opponent or then champs would never lose the fact rocky beat appolo who was undefeated up to that point showed rocky was no paper champ and he did it with barely a years training under micky he never technically even trained till micky gave him the time of day and fact he was able to beat apollo says alot

Re: mick letting rocky think he was good
He was trying to protect him, and didn't want to see him hurt.
The fighters Rocky was going against weren't bad boxers, they just weren't boxers Mick thought would do him any serious damage. He was making Rocky rich, whilst minimising the risk of any kind of serious damage or paralysis.
Mick didn't care whether that was good for the sport or not. He cared about giving Rocky the best life he could.

Re: mick letting rocky think he was good
Mick didn't necessarily have Rocky fight bums but he kept Rocky away from the Clubber types in the sport. He knew after the two Apollo fights that Rocky couldn't afford to be in another all out battle. In Rocky III, Rocky is successful and popular but he's also not a great champion. I think part of Rocky III is Rocky proving to himself that he is indeed a great fighter. After what Mick reveals to him and even more so after the loss to Clubber Rocky feels that he was a fraud.
