The Blue and the Gray : Okay I'm Nitpicking

Okay I'm Nitpicking

After John and Kathy meet at Bull Run, He decides to call on her at her family home. When he meets Mr. Reynolds, he asks if "Kathy" is home. Shouldn't he have addressed her as Miss Reynolds as a formal courtesy?

Re: Okay I'm Nitpicking

Yep; considering the time and place I don't think he'd have been so informal with her father (so wonderfully and arrogantly played by Robert Vaughn who's fantastic in those roles.) But I do love the way he puts that Prussian "poppycock" in his place.

Re: Okay I'm Nitpicking

Not poopycock.
He called him a popinjay, a foolish person who is excessive about personal appearance

I was born in the house my father built

Re: Okay I'm Nitpicking

Yes but John lacked social skills early on in the movie. Later on he was more polished.
