A Christmas Story : Post deleted
Re: I can't understand all the love for this film
Look here. I adore this movie with every bit of my being. It's one of my favorites. I'm sorry you don't like it , but it sounds to me like you have a low tolerance of profanity and sexuality. So of course you don't love it! (The leg is not pornographic by the way it's a leg. If there was vagina or buttocks involved in its structure, it would be, but there isn't so it really is not. Is it suggestive? Yes. But to call it pornographic is a bit of a stretch)
It's okay not to like something , but that doesn't mean other people can't!!! Not everyone thinks and feels the way you do. Plus, it's only a movie. And there are so many other Christmas movies out there!! Have you ever seen The Bishop's Wife ? That's a very wholesome and wonderful Christmas movie I heartily recommend to everyone !

It wasn't pornographic, it was a promotion for a then-popular soda company, Ne-Hi
(because the lamp had a knee, get it?). It was, however, incredibly tacky, and the old man's pathetic attachment to it, as it was the only thing he'd ever won, was funny in a sad way, as a lot of Jean Shepherd's humor was. This is a movie intended for those who didn't grow up in the land of sanitized Hallmark movies, but in the real world in which childhood is about insecurity, disillusionment,
powerlessness, and anxietybut we're still weirdly nostalgic for it. Maybe you can't relate to Randy hiding in the kitchen cabinet to escape his father's wrath, but I'll bet a lot of other viewers can (I know I can, because I used to do something similar as a kid). It's funny, and therapeutic, to see that childhood fear in retrospect and know that you got through it. That's true for a lot of what goes on in this movie.
In those treacly Hallmark movies, Christmas is always perfect, and everyone ends up happily ever after. In real life, the store Santa Claus is not always a nice guy, you live in constant fear of neighborhood bullies, your Christmas dinner can be ruined by a pack of dogs (or unruly relatives), and your parents' happiness is so shaky that it can be threatened by a plastic lamp.
But there's always a Chinese restaurant that's open on Christmas Day, so have faith.
I'm not crying, you fool, I'm laughing!

I just looked at your posting history. You trash "A Christmas Story" for being too vulgar, but watch "Dumb and Dumber?" A bit inconsistent, aren't you? However, I don't intend to go to that board to trash you, "Dumb and Dumber," or the character of the people who enjoy that movie. Live and let live.

When you ask people why they bother going to a board for a movie or show they hate and post, you get one of two responses.
1) "This isn't a fan board. People can come here and give their opinion whatever it might be."
2) You get a civics lesson on the first amendment.
or BOTH.
Many people love The Walking Dead. I tried watching it and found myself cheering for the dead. LOL But I never felt the need to go to The Walking Dead board and tell people how much I dislike the show.

Re: I can't understand all the love for this film
An ugly, over-rated, mean-spirited movie.
People like you are the reason movies are so politically correct now.
Language is WAAAAAY too harsh for the spirit of the season (much less for, what is SUPPOSEDLY a positive, entertaining FAMILY movie) not to mention the pornographic leg lamp.
It shows people and their faults in a realistic manner. Not artificially nice like some Disneyland fairy tale.
If that's not bad enough, Santa's portrayal is totally uncalled for as an evil, creepy old guy who doesn't care about what you want for Christmas.
I just saw him as more of a disgruntled retail worker who was tired of dealing with little brats all day, and just wanted to get the hell out of there because it's closing time. When I was younger I thought he was mean, but as I got older and got a job in retail during the holiday season when I was in college I instantly saw where he was coming from.
Also remember that we're looking at this Santa in part through Ralphie's eyes. When you're a kid, adults can seem meaner and scarier than they actually are. At the end of the scene, Santa is suddenly nice to the kids after Ralphie and his family leave.

Excellent point.
The story was narrated through the eyes of the little kid, Ralphie.
Needless to say, he was hardly an impartial and reliable narrator.
Which, indeed, was the entire point of the "story".
Namely, it examines the "ins and outs" of Christmas, through the eyes of a little kid.
Re: I can't understand all the love for this film
Christmas Story is too offensive for your delicate moral tastes but Zoolander is not?

Please don't feed the trolls.
Re: I can't understand all the love for this film
Since the OP himself deleted his post that tells me that you're correct. Definitely a troll that wanted to ruffle some feathers.
