Sendhil Ramamurthy : should be Prince of Persia

Jerry Bruckheimer has picked up rights to Prince of Persia, SR would be an exillent choice to play the prince. any thoughts?

I agree. They need to find someone lighter skinned to play the Prince of Persia. However I don't think most of the public would care. I know here in Utah anyone with brown skin is considered a potential terrorist or Mexican. :p

Exactly! There's nothing wrong with casting an Indian in the role, but they have to at least look like the Prince of Persia, who is olive skinned and blue-green eyed. Sendhil is a great guy, but definitely not the one to play this part!

Are you joking? The average Persian is 1000x paler than a South Indian like Sendhil.

Persians are not dark! They range from dark as a North Indian to light olive skin.

But like others have posted, I wouldn't put it beyond some Hollywood directors to cast someone who doesn't look Persian in the role. They sometimes think all brown people, regardless of shade look the same.

I remember the Jungle Book (1994), where they cast Jason Scott Lee as Mowgli. That was just absurd.

He is a gorgeous man, but definitely Indian, not Persian. Either way, I cannot stop looking at him

IMDB says the part went to Jake Gyllenhaal. I don't see it, myself.

Sendhil's just as Persian as Jake (which is to say, not at all). I think if they weren't even going to get in the ballpark of Iran/Persia they might as well have given it to Sendhil!

Indeed- I'm kinda conflicted in these situations whether someone of the actual ethnicity being portrayed should be chosen for a part, or if it doesn't really matter. I guess it comes down to who the producers think will put more butts in seats. -shrug-

(And, shallowly, I just find Ramamurthy a lot more compelling than Gyllenhaal.)

I think *everyone* here finds Sendhil to be more compelling that Jake Gyllenhaal. Outside of Donnie Darko I don't really care for his work.

lol my sister *loves* that movie. But to me it wouldn't have been such a big deal if it wasn't "controversial". I don't see how it was though, there have been gay couples on TV for awhile now (like Tara and Willow on Buffy <3) To me it was just a love story. It didn't blow me away. But I have a knack for not really liking a lot of Oscar-y movies.

I actually like Jake Gyllenhaal a lot (I thought he was excellent in "The Good Girl" and Brokeback), and this casting doesn't really bother me because of him personally or because of his talent. It's just yet another case of whitewashed Hollywood movies reminds me of how all the Asian characters were sidelined in "21," even though they were central characters in the true story on which that movie was supposedly based.

I do realize I'm posting this on the message board for an 5b4Indian-American actor, which isn't really the correct ethnicity for "Prince of Persia" either, but at least that would be a step in the nonwhite hero direction you'd think we'd be able to handle that by the year 2008

There are pictures posted of Jake as Prince on the net somewhere and he actually looks like he could pull it off. Should be pretty good.
