The Terminator : Terminator (1984) Vs Terminator 2: Judgment Day…

Terminator (1984) Vs Terminator 2: Judgment Day…

Which Terminator movie do you prefer more and why?
I definitely prefer The Terminator from 1984, Terminator 2 was good too no doubt, but I have always preferred The Terminator over Terminator 2 because:

- The Terminator (1984) had a faster pace to it

- I always thought that Arnold Schwarzenegger's Terminator was more menacing than Robert Patrick's T-1000 (The T-1000 was a good villain too) but I have always preferred Arnold as the villain, Arnold as the Terminator was more deadly

- The Terminator (1st movie) had a horror/slasher vibe to it while T2 didn't really have that vibe.

- The Terminator (1st movie) never really overly slowed down, I always thought that T2 was a little bit too long.

- I prefer the ending more in the 1st movie

So yeah that is why I much prefer the 1st Terminator movie to T2. I do like T2 as well it is by no means a bad movie but as I said I much rather the 1st one over the 2nd one.

Re: Terminator (1984) Vs Terminator 2: Judgment Day…

THE TERMINATOR (1984) hands down is a much better movie.

TERMINATOR 2 (1991) had some good action (and FX) but beyond those factors is an awfuly dull movie. I've never understood why people rate this movie over the original?

"If you're lying.....I'll be back"

Re: Terminator (1984) Vs Terminator 2: Judgment Day…

Definitely The Terminator for me. I love the horror vibe in that one and Arnold makes a way better evil terminator. In T2, not only does he become the hero, but his terminator becomes cartoonish which i didnt care for. I also didnt care for how John Connor tried to make Arnolds terminator more human. T2 was geared more towards children and families to see. The tones for these 2 movies are totally different. The main reason to love this sequel are the special effect. Other than that, its T1 all over again but more family friendly, so i definitely prefer T1.

Re: Terminator (1984) Vs Terminator 2: Judgment Day…

As a kid: T2

Now: The Terminator.

Why? Because it's a fcking masterpiece. T2 = entertaining popcorn movie. Nothing more, nothing less.

I'm just on my way up to Clavius.

Re: Terminator (1984) Vs Terminator 2: Judgment Day…

Same here ! Terminator 2 was great but Terminator 1 now i like better cause its much more scarier.

Re: Terminator (1984) Vs Terminator 2: Judgment Day…

I liked Terminator 2 better. It had more action and it was a sequel that outdid the original.

Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Alice In Chains, and My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic fan

Re: Terminator (1984) Vs Terminator 2: Judgment Day…

If you don't mind, in what aspect did it 'outdo' the original?

I find the second one inferior in almost every aspect, except for the effects maybe.

Re: Terminator (1984) Vs Terminator 2: Judgment Day…

I'd say that T2 used to be a lot more impressive, and most of it's action sequences still look way more awesome than crap in blockbusters nowadays. But T1 is ultimately a better movie.

Re: Terminator (1984) Vs Terminator 2: Judgment Day…

The original because I like Arnie better as the villain. He's so cold and calculating.

Re: Terminator (1984) Vs Terminator 2: Judgment Day…

Terminator 1.

Re: Terminator (1984) Vs Terminator 2: Judgment Day…

Both are great in their own way.

Its like Batman Begins and The Dark Knight

Re: Terminator (1984) Vs Terminator 2: Judgment Day…

The Terminator- 10/10
T2- 9/10

I've always loved the first the best, as it had the perfect blend of sci-fi, horror and drama. Plus, I loved the dark, gritty atmosphere of the film.

The Saw Is Family

Re: Terminator (1984) Vs Terminator 2: Judgment Day…

Can't decide. I like them both equally. I really like the darkness of the first film. Arnie is evil all the way and just lays waste to a night club and police station. The 2nd movie was more toned down and politically correct which I didn't care for. But I still loved T2 enormously and liked the pschy ward breakout including bringing back the psychologist from the first one and references to the police station shootout. The mall scene shootout and the truck chase were awesome as well. The weakest was the ending in the steel mill.

Re: Terminator (1984) Vs Terminator 2: Judgment Day…

T1 is more of a sci-fi thriller. T2 is more of an action blockbuster. Depends what you want out of your viewing experience.

I prefer T1.

"What are you, some kind of doomsday machine, boy?"

Re: Terminator (1984) Vs Terminator 2: Judgment Day…

Same here. Cameron really knows his thing when it's about making everything into popcornish, "havin' a good time" movies with still holding the elements of the originals (Terminator, Aliens), but it's really good to see that T1 was and still is a masterpiece of his, which doesn't rely on this late cameron-ish movie making style.

T2 could beat T1 if it had a better atmosphere, unfortunatelly it had more of a grounded, action flick vibe which really haven't been appealing for me ever. This was my main problem during watching T2 really, "if it had a more deep, similar vibe/soundtrack to its original, it might could have been a better installment"...

T1 takes us more into its deepness, the sci-fi/apocalyptic atmosphere JUST only with its soundtrack, where even the disco musics give that 80's night-time vibe (not like the Guns'n'Roses in Judgement Day). Then there is the surface, the visual: constant night time scenes, foggy places, whoever knows about the future is sad or serious, everyone is dying around Sarah etc..
We can also feel that desperation of Sarah's, where even we, the audience couldn't know "what to do to survive this"...or "oh sh*t, what an unfortunate sorrow to have"...

so yeah, definitely T1 is better, because it represents its story and concept in a more straightforward way, it sticks to it more organicaly.

Being a critic is not a real profession, and it sure as hell is not rocket science either

Re: Terminator (1984) Vs Terminator 2: Judgment Day…

The Terminator, it's perfectly paced, lean storytelling, good natural dialogue, strong performances. T1 is a horror movie with nifty action and sci-fi underpinnings. Schwarzenegger delivers his best film performance playing a relentless cyborg. And Michael Biehn and Linda Hamilton are excellent. And that ending...epic!

T2 is nothing more than a dated summer action movie with some cheesy, cringey dialogue, including dated references, that doesn't hold up, slows down to a snails pace midway, and a couple of really awful performances from Linda Hamilton and Edward Furlong.

Re: Terminator (1984) Vs Terminator 2: Judgment Day…

You lost all credibility with dissing Linda Hamiltons performance.
