The Bill : Why did they axe The Bill?

Why did they axe The Bill?

I'm watching the later episodes on watch they where a lot grittier than what The Bill was before but I'm thoroughly enjoying them why did they axe the show?

Re: Why did they axe The Bill?

most of the audience had left the show when it became a soap! and then they never returned .

Re: Why did they axe The Bill?

Watched one of the sort of earlier episodes today (2003) and I'm watching a later one on the TV now (2009). I'm really not enjoying the grittier storyline. The show got cancelled as ratings dropped and ITV wanted to invest money elsewhere.

Re: Why did they axe The Bill?

Because itv are stupid . The bill should have been picked up by say channel 5 it was a great series

Re: Why did they axe The Bill?

I think it got cancelled because the writers lost the plot. I'm prepared to believe that there are police who've committed crimes but there were more murderers in Sun Hill police station than outside it. It became unbelievable and that resulted in falling ratings. Sad as it provides so many brilliant characters over the years.

Re: Why did they axe The Bill?

The Bill was axed because it was getting too expensive to produce and the ratings were falling.

It's glory days were also well behind it. The last season or two had that American HD look and incidental music which totally destroyed the character of the show.

Re: Why did they axe The Bill?

Used to love the Bill and hardly missed an episode. Even now thanks to Drama I have been watching the re-runs (from 1998 onwards, now up to 2006)

But I have to say the Bill had to be shelved when they turned it into a soap opera and made far to many bent/evil cops. Focused far to much on their love lives and other personal stuff. As well as at some point having every kid of one of the cops arrested for something or other.

When it was a simple cops and robbers show it was fantastic and easily the best cop show on TV.

Re: Why did they axe The Bill?

The first three series were the best with galloway roach and dashwood . Now they were gritty
