I Need To Know : Go here for the new boards…

Go here for the new boards…

Re: Go here for the new boards…

wow, whoever made that forum did a pretty good job and already has over 1000 registered users. would have been better if the URL was something simpler though.

Re: Go here for the new boards…

Yes, they should remove "freeforums" (although they probably can't) and just have "imdb2.net" or "imdb2.com". They'd have to do it themselves (or John Carter who started it) if they/he doesn't want the "freeforums" part in the URL, I think, bnsat.

Re: Go here for the new boards…

Cool. I checked it out a tiny bit and registered. Used my same user name so if anybody from here remembered me(doubt it I hardy post anymore). Most other places on the internet I go by CaptKirk42

"so if anybody from here remembered me"

Of course we do!
Those free fly-overs in the Enterprise certainly helped

Re: Go here for the new boards…

Thanks, it IS! I'll register there as well

Re: Go here for the new boards…

Re: Go here for the new boards…

format is not the same. That is the problem.
The board here are both topic specific and film/tv show specific and actor specific.

Re: Go here for the new boards…

That's because it's Proboards. It's just not setup the way things here are. It's more catagorical, so you see ALL the boards on the first page. You can have subfolders/sections but again, when you go to the next page, you'll see all the categories listed there too.

What you're used to here are portals. You enter something in the search bar at the top, and it takes you from the first portal to another portal. Portals are definitely cleaner, but I've used Proboards. Once you get used to the format there, it's not so bad.

It's also fairly easy to stay on top of Trolls at Proboards. So, that's a plus.

EMOTICONS ARE BACK! YAY!

Re: Go here for the new boards…

You're going to have the same problem as here after a short while where you're going to be overrun by hate speech and trolls. If you're looking for a well mannered moderated forum, nothing will replace the breadth of IMDB boards but if your looking for a board that isn't the Wild Wild West of trolls check out http://www.hometheaterlounge.com

Re: Go here for the new boards…

For me https://www.themoviedb.org/ seems to be the best alternative. Discussion boards are a brand new feature. It's the same concept as IMDb, a movie database with discussion possibility for each entry. The best thing would be for all of us to move there. IMDb and its misdeeds would be forgotten in a sec. (:

Re: Go here for the new boards…

Those forums are not of much use and won't take off. The important forums are all the movie, tv show, actor, director page forums linked to their specific pages.

Re: Go here for the new boards…

That's exactly what TheMovieDB does, as the only other site I know of besides IMDb. Open the page on any movie or cast/crew member, and you'll have a "Discussions" link to the left, pointing to its very own board.

They also don't have to "take off", because they already did. The site has already been around, and with a healthy and active community, for way longer than IMDb's announcement.

Re: Go here for the new boards…

It doesn't look like they took off. They have been around, but their current community, not plentiful, a small clique, doesn't look very friendly. Look at the forum. Most of them regard newbies coming from the IMDb the way Trump regards Muslims.

Re: Go here for the new boards…

I haven't really been active there myself yet, but what I saw as a reader seemed plenty friendly and welcoming. Quite importantly, the admin also seems very present and receptive to feedback, which I appreciate.

There are currently over 35,000 threads, opened since the forum started around 4.5 years ago. It's not IMDb levels, but not a bad level of activity, certainly way more than any of the other replacement suggestions I've seen so far.

And hey, the best way to improve activity and, if needed, friendliness, is getting more active and friendly people there, right?

Anyway, my main reason for choosing this as my top pick so far is definitely the movie- and person-specific boards. That's an absolute must for me, because how else would I find people interested in the same obscure stuff?

Re: Go here for the new boards…

https://www.themoviedb.org don't seem to have a "I Need To Know" section, that's a deal breaker for me.

Yes, that's very useful.

Probably the most useful board IMDB ever had.

They should create the same.

Since it's mostly user-driven, it shouldn't be difficult to re-create on
http://imdb2.freeforums.net

Re: Go here for the new boards…

Thanks for this. I just joined. I can't believe they're doing away with the forums.

Re: Go here for the new boards…

They now have a "I need to know" board at
http://imdb2.freeforums.net

I still like the IMDB discussion board design better.

Maybe they can get an upgrade to better software soon?

Re: Go here for the new boards…

They had it from the start. I may go there. But they should get rid of that part where someone is spamming for his own movie board. Here it is okay because this one is disappearing. But it is unseemly to see an endless discussion on a new board from someone trying to steal members from it. The administrator there is too nice to allow that.
