Argentine films

(Or Argentinian, whichever you prefer...)

I have seen a few in my time. I really love some older films with Federico Luppi, like Tiempo de revancha (Time for Revenge, 1981). And Patagonia rebelde (Rebellion in Patagonia, 1974).

The best new-ish movie I've seen from Argentina was Carancho (2010).

Please tell me your favorite films from Argentina, or the best films -- old or new.

Re: Argentine films

"The Curious Dr. Hummmp" ("La Venganza de Sexo") and "The Deadly Organ". I also liked "Fuego" and "Rooms for Tourists".

Those are all low-budget genre films (more or less), but another, more serious film I liked was "The Holy Girl".

Re: Argentine films

I really love "Anita" by Marcos Carnevale, released a few years ago (maybe 2010-2012?). Note that there are (at least) two very different versions. Anita suffers from Down syndrome and is so fat that you cannot even estimate her age. She is also mentally retarded. After the great attentate against the Jewish centre Anita starts an odyssey through the town.

But then there are two markedly different versions. In one of them she will meet many other people. All of them (except the nurse near the end) will thinking of getting rid of her as soon as possible, but it is also their decision to take responsibility for her as long as she is under their care. So there is an element of "feel good" in this version, despite all other things that happens. This is the version I saw at the Jewish Film Festival in Stockholm.

The other version is the one on my DVD bought from Taiwan. The number of people she meets are much smaller, and the degree of responsibility of most of them is minimal. For instance, the photographer takes her on a buss, asks her to sit down until he returns, and hastily leaves the buss.

The primary centre in "Tango - Gardel's Exile" are fugitives in Paris, and I must say, it is a long time since Paris has been photographed with so much love as in this movie.

Re: Argentine films

Most of them today star Ricardo Darin. I notice that El Secreto de sus ojos has reached no. 140 on the Top 250 list...

Re: Argentine films

One of my favorite films The Official Story, so well made in all it's aspects and it deals with a serious subject, historical events and the consequences on the people. And of course the main actress is the Great Norma Aleandro!

Cause its international!!!
