My co-host and I talk about the differences between "Field of Dreams" and "Shoeless Joe" on our podcast http://traffic.libsyn.com/bookvsmovie/Field20of20Dreams20FINAL.mp3[url][/url
Have any of you read the book? What did you think?

The movie wins. (I actually bought my Copy AT the Field of Dreams site in 2009, the 20th anniversary of the film)
I found the book to be sappy and the characters shallow. I also think "The Rapture of JD Salinger" is a weak way of ending the story, and Ray's father showing up isn't even a surprise. The "Oldest Living Chicago Cub" is kind of redundant since we already have Archie Graham and his dream, And when Archie Graham crosses the foul line, he loses all the memory of ever playing on the field, defeating the impact of his sacrifice.
And even though it's likely because I was born only 17 miles west of Dyersville, I much prefer the setting of Dubuque County over Iowa City.
although I did like The imagery in the descriptions.
(Also, W.P Kinsella: River City in "The Music Man" was NOT based on Iowa City, it was based on Meredith Willson's home town of Mason City)
