Asian Cinema : Chinese vs Japanese period dramas.

Chinese vs Japanese period dramas.

I read that the former tend to be fantasy movies and latter don't. Is there a reason in particular? Specially considering that Japanese animation and horror do tend to be.

Re: Chinese vs Japanese period dramas.

I think fantasy C-dramas are common because wuxia is popular in China and it has a long history (it existed in other forms before TV). Also, one of the most popular early C-dramas was Journey to the West (1986), a fantasy, so maybe some later C-dramas were influenced by that one.

I'm not an expert on dramas, so maybe someone else can give you a better answer.
