JFK : A right-wing conspiracy behind JFK assassination?

A right-wing conspiracy behind JFK assassination?

In not just one, but TWO of his movies (NIXON), Stone implies that a right-wing, neo-fascist conspiracy had Kennedy assassinated because Kennedy was too liberal and Democratic.

This does not make much sense, as Kennedy was more conservative in many respects than LBJ and Nixon. The size of the Federal government grew gigantically under those two.

First off, JFK was funded and managed by his dad, who was an America First guy who got fired by Roosevelt for trying to appease Hitler.

Secondly, if a right-wing conspiracy did kill Kennedy, they got none of what they wanted in the 60s and 70s. The Civil Rights movement went forward with Federal enforcement, there was no nuclear war with Red China (like Goldwater and Wallace's running mate, Custis Lemay, wanted), Cuba was never invaded, and instead trade was opened to Red China.

Then Nixon resigned, and the economy went under, and the US lost and pulled out of Vietnam, and in 1976 we get Jimmy Carter, who is similar to Bobby Kennedy.

So the argument would have to be stretched to say all this was part of a conspiracy to get Reagan elected by 1980, if the "right-wing" was to have a victory. And Reagan grew the Federal government gigantically as well (in its military sense). As a matter of fact, the collapse of the USSR actually caused the US culture to become far more left-wing than ever before.

If a "right-wing" conspiracy killed Kennedy, then Goldwater and Wallace type policies would have been implemented. Had Goldwater been elected instead of LBJ, maybe the case could be made. But it's just not what happened.

I agree with the premise about the Military Industrial Complex, but that is neither "right-wing" or "left-wing" as the 2 communist leviathans (China and the USSR) had Military Industrial Complexes as well.

That's up for debate. All three men were strongly anti-Communist. On Domestic policies, they were all relatively Liberal for their time.

Many of LBJ's Great Society programs like Civil Rights and Medicare were originally proposed by JFK's administration. Medicare likely would've been created had JFK served a second term.

Kennedy expanded other things too like the Peace Corps, the CIA, and Special Operations forces in the military.

With the Space Program and other Domestic programs, there's no reason to believe Kennedy wouldn't have expanded the size of the government.

Lastly, despite running for President as a fierce anti-Communist and believer in the Domino Theory, many Right-wingers in JFK's time believed he was soft on Communism and worse, a secret Socialist (sort of like how some today call President Obama a Socialist). Also, in those times, Right-wingers associated the Civil Rights movement with Communism. Kennedy became more publicly supportive of Civil Rights as he progressed towards running for his second term.

Over time, the Right has grown more respect for Kennedy but his contemporaries did not view him in any way shape or form as a Conservative. They also were angry about Kennedy losing Cuba to the Soviets and believed he appeased the Soviets to end the Cuban Missile Crisis.

The Left in the 1960s viewed JFK as a Centrist.

With the benefit of 20/20 hindsight, it's easy to reach that conclusion.

However, if there was a conspiracy, we can assume they didn't have a Crystal Ball. If they knew how the US would respond to Kennedy's murder, they wouldn't have did it in the first place. Few in 1963 could've predicted that framing a Communist for the murder of a US President wouldn't have led to retaliation against the Soviets or Cuba.

One theory I find plausible is that Kennedy was murdered to provoke a war against Cuba.

There's some evidence that Lee Harvey Oswald either met with Cuban Intelligence agents in Mexico, or the stories of these contacts were planted in order to push Johnson towards retaliating against Castro.

We know Oswald visited the Cuban embassy in Mexico City weeks before the Kennedy assassination but the details of what was said and who he came into contact with have always been murky. President Johnson and J Edgar Hoover believed someone impersonated Oswald in Mexico City.

What really happened in Mexico City? We may never know but if Conspirators intended to provoke a US invasion of Cuba, they obviously failed.

It's reasonable to assume that the US President would be forced to invade Cuba if evidence of Cuban involvement in JFK's assassination existed. What they couldn't have predicted is that Johnson and Hoover would bury the details of what happened in Mexico City. Not even the Warren Commission knew all the details.

Regardless of whether the Mexico City stuff was real or contrived, Johnson decided he'd rather not know the truth because if it were true that the Cubans were involved, it might've led to World War 3. This is exactly what Johnson told Earl Warren when he persuaded him to get involved with the Commission...
