Call the Midwife : Would have liked to see Jennifer and Chummy at the funeral.
Re: Would have liked to see Jennifer and Chummy at the funeral.
Me too.
Re: Would have liked to see Jennifer and Chummy at the funeral.
PasadenaGirl: What happened to CHUMMY? The Police Officer is back, where is she?
Re: Would have liked to see Jennifer and Chummy at the funeral.
I came here to ask the same question. I can't remember if she left to be a full-time mom or to take another job. I can understand Jenny not being there if she's not living in the area, but since Peter still patrols the neighborhood, it seems like Chummy should have been there or at least mentioned as to why she wasn't. It could have been a natural part of the conversation between Peter and Trixie while they were standing in front of the casket.

katherine5832: Could not find any information whether this was a career choice or one by the screenwriters.
Re: Would have liked to see Jennifer and Chummy at the funeral.
I believe the storyline was that she was managing that horrible home for unwed mothers after the director was fired.

Re: Would have liked to see Jennifer and Chummy at the funeral.
They could have just had the other characters mention where they were. As a previous poster said, the scene where Trixie and Peter were mourning Sister Evangelina would have been an ideal moment. It felt awkward to have there be no acknowledgement or mention at all- especially with Chummy's husband standing right there. This show so rarely disappoints so I guess it surprises me when it does even if it's only in small ways.
Re: Would have liked to see Jennifer and Chummy at the funeral.
Agreed.
Re: Would have liked to see Jennifer and Chummy at the funeral.
Me too! Couldn't they have CGI'd her in the crowd? There is no way on earth the Chummy we all got to know would have missed that funeral. Didn't she go off to work at a home for unwed mothers?
I hate to say this because I loved Chummy but I kind of wish they had just had the character die. Peter and Chummy were the perfect love story but having Peter on the show alone is just weird. If the actress is never coming back they should just cut the ties 100%. I think it's more in the character of the show to have Peter be a sad widower being looked after by the kind hearts at Nonnatus House.

I'm going out on a limb here, but did anyone else get a strange vibe when Trixie took Peter's hand while standing in front of the casket? It happened right after Trixie and Phyllis were having their conversation about how lonely Trixie is. Maybe they're planning on tying up some loose ends with Chummy and Peter next season and opening the door for a Trixie/Peter relationship? It seems kind of soap opera-ish, but it was just something that came to mind during that moment. I'd hate to see the character of Chummy die too, but if Peter's still on the show, they either need to casually make mention of her every once in awhile or cut the ties like Redart27 said.

I didn't even think of CGI, but they could have even had a stand-in shown from behind and next to Peter as they were walking in the procession behind the hearse at the end. Any artificial presence would have been better than no presence at all.
Re: Would have liked to see Jennifer and Chummy at the funeral.
I thought I read Chummy would be back next season .I don' t know if it' s for good or just to basically write her off.
I did get a vibe about Trixie and Peter . I don't know why they would put that in there for no reason and right after her talk with Phyllis. In a way it was touching she and Peter were there for each other but also a little awkward .

Re: Would have liked to see Jennifer and Chummy at the funeral.
Miranda Hart is indeed returning for Season Six.
Re: Would have liked to see Jennifer and Chummy at the funeral.
Chummy will no longer be in season 6. Miranda Heart can't fit it in her schedule anymore.Hopefully, they'll up her story then as they're kind of taking the piss with how long she's been absent and doesn't get mentioned.
Re: Would have liked to see Jennifer and Chummy at the funeral.
Yes, I saw all the various announcements and Tweets. I had to console myself with Miranda Hart's book, which, bless their hearts, the Los Angeles Public Library system had. I enjoyed it so much I bought my own copy. I've also read Jennifer North's second and third books, with "Letters To The Midwife" especially moving. What a pity she didn't live to see the series become a smash hit.
Re: Would have liked to see Jennifer and Chummy at the funeral.
Yes, I got that vibe too, and true it seemed emphasized following Trixie's chat with Phyllis. I would absolutely hate that storyline and really, really hope they don't go there. That is a very different circumstance than the Tom and Barbara situation.
Re: Would have liked to see Jennifer and Chummy at the funeral.
Maybe it's just that both are feeling alone and they were there at the same time. I can't them going for that storyline. It would be very different from Tom and Barbara , your right.
Re: Would have liked to see Jennifer and Chummy at the funeral.
I completely forgot about Chummy until Peter showed up in the finale. I believe she is working at an unwed mother's home though I can't remember the reason for her leaving. I think it had to do with her mother dying.
I wish there was a scene that mentioned both Jenny and Chummy. Surely, they would have sent letters of condolences.

Re: Would have liked to see Jennifer and Chummy at the funeral.
I would have liked it if someone would have asked Peter how Chummy was. It's like she doesn't exist anymore.

Re: Would have liked to see Jennifer and Chummy at the funeral.
They did that in the previous episode, the one about women being attacked.

Re: Would have liked to see Jennifer and Chummy at the funeral.
I missed that, I'll have to re-watch that episode
