My Cousin Vinny : Question about the can of Tuna and one other question

Question about the can of Tuna and one other question

Yes in the beginning, I notice that Bill sticks the can of Tuna in his pocket.

Then as their driving down the road he realizes that he took the can by accident says Jesus, I forgot to pay for this."

So why didn't he just tell that to the sheriff that he accidently forgot to pay for it instead of him shoplifting it?

And my other question what is the opening song to the movie called and who sings it?

And when they were first locked up there is no way they would be wearing their same clothes in the cell without being given uniforms.

Please advise kindly

Thank You

(1) The film was written to be a "comedy of errors". There was a series of unfortunate errors, misunderstandings, and miscommunications. All of this got the two college boys into a heap of hot water. And set up the premise for the film.

(2) If the college student did as you suggested (that is, to just tell the sheriff that he accidentally forgot to pay for the can of tuna, instead of him shoplifting it) ... then there would be no film to follow. And there certainly would be no humor. And I think the whole point was to make a film. And a humorous one, at that.

Plus -- going back to Point #1 above -- the Ralph Macchio character was totally confused, puzzled, and bewildered. The circumstances totally threw him for a loop. One minute, he is shopping for potato chips and soda. And, in the next minute, he is sitting on Death Row in some backwards Southern prison, unjustly accused of murder. You can't get a more bewildering circumstance. It was totally surreal and he could not believe what was happening to him.
