Bitter Moon : Was anybody else competely turned off by Mimi?

Was anybody else competely turned off by Mimi?

Maybe it's the actress but for some reason I found her to be a complete turn off.

And I kind of hated her French accent too, "I was just jelus" .....

Re: Was anybody else competely turned off by Mimi?

no...

have you seen the diving bell and the butterfly...great performance...

Re: Was anybody else competely turned off by Mimi?

indeed, no.

Re: Was anybody else competely turned off by Mimi?

NO!

Re: Was anybody else competely turned off by Mimi?

No... And she IS French (thus the accent)

Re: Was anybody else competely turned off by Mimi?

Fair enough guys! thanks for replies!

Re: Was anybody else competely turned off by Mimi?

For a minute there I thought you were talking about the Mimi on the Drew Carey Show. lol

But seriously... yes, I got more and more disgusted with Mimi as the film went on, but methinks that was kind of the idea. She was supposed to be a b!tch. And in that regard, she did a great job of it!

Re: Was anybody else competely turned off by Mimi?

No I wasn't turned off by her. Might have something to do with being hetero.

It's so lonesome in the saddle since my horse died.

Re: Was anybody else competely turned off by Mimi?

YES! I think Seigner is the weakest character in the movie. She can't act and she is not hot. I find Kristin Scott Thomas a much more attractive and sexy woman. She combines style and beauty and is very sensual. Love her in this movie.

Re: Was anybody else competely turned off by Mimi?

i found Mimi very attractive on the outside, very devoted to oscar but still lacking depth on the inside. Only somewhat unattractive - mostly still attractive.

"All that matters to me now is Jenny!"

Re: Was anybody else competely turned off by Mimi?

I wasn't totally turned off - but I wasn't exactly turned on either.
I thought the woman that Oscar took out for dinner - the one working in the clothing store who Oscar first thought was Mimi when he saw her back - the one Oscar left at the table when Mimi showed up - I thought she was much more attractive than Mimi. To me, anyway. I thought she was a poor casting choice (not Mimi, the other one) only because she was prettier than Mimi - but that's a very minor quibble in an otherwise tremendously fascinating movie.

Re: Was anybody else competely turned off by Mimi?

I'm a woman so I know you all will take me with a grain of salt, but I was thinking the exact same thing.

Except that I think it was a deliberate casting choice. No other woman would do for Oscar, no matter how much more attractive physically. He had spotted his kindred spirit with that radar that human beings have, and there was no substitute for that. Their souls have touched and locked into each other, though perhaps too close to the ground. :)

Re: Was anybody else competely turned off by Mimi?

No, you are not alone, Nachura. And no folks, I am NOT gay. I thought the portrayal of Mimi (and maybe the actress herself) was limp and insipid. The vacant stare and the "always open mouth" frankly reminded me of some country bumpkin. Maybe it was meant to be sexy, but it didn't do anything for me. She was typical of the type of woman apparently found attractive by Polanski. I know I'll get flamed for this, but maybe if I had been sixteen years old instead of 50+....

To tell the truth, I've seen KST look a lot better, too.

Re: Was anybody else competely turned off by Mimi?

She wasn't quite what I go for, but it didn't matter. Her submission and availability were conveyed extraordinarily well.

Re: Was anybody else competely turned off by Mimi?

I can't stand Seigner. First and foremost, she can't play. Then, she's dumb, vulgar and classless -- or so she sounds in interviews; I don't know her personally. Perhaps in person she's a miracle of grace and subtlety... but I somehow doubt it. However, I feel it's unfair to reproach her with her accent. How many foreign languages do YOU speak without accent?

... OK OK, I understand your point actually. I'm just annoyed with your comment because I speak English with a big fat thick French accent myself. But I find some accents irritating too so I see what you mean.

Re: Was anybody else competely turned off by Mimi?

She tried her best at acting, and she was very attractive at the time of this film, but the character is so repulsive and psychotic and disturbed, that I couldn't stand to look at seigner, no matter how many times she was naked or whatever. I just couldn't stand her character, who was so pitiful and lonely and then shockingly disturbed. I guess its just good filmmaking when you feel that way about a fictional character, but yeah, she was a lot more appetizing in the other two Polanski films she starred in, Frantic and The Ninth Gate.

Re: Was anybody else competely turned off by Mimi?

Just watched the movie last night. And anyone (man or woman) who was not turned on by Mimi during the first half of the movie needs some serious medication. What other actor could be so totally innocent and seductive? A first rate performance, and tremendously erotic. Kristin Scott Thomas is also one hell of a woman, Kristin Scott in the bathtub in English Patient is an image that will haunt me forever, but she is all about elegance and cool sexuality. Mimi adds the innocence, and then takes it so much further. Again, one hell of a performance.

Re: Was anybody else competely turned off by Mimi?

The only thing she has going on for her are her tits. Other than that she's not hot and she has a dumb and unnatractive face.

Re: Was anybody else competely turned off by Mimi?

Not even for a moment.

She was beautiful, mesmerizing and loved from the purest place possible.

Too bad some douchebags get such women and don't appreciate them until it's too late.
