Crash Landing: The Rescue of Flight 232 : Any documentaries available?

Any documentaries available?

I guess this post is off-topic, since it has nothing to do with this movie, but I just saw the 232 incident on the History Channel's "Shockwave" show, and I seem to recall seeing a much more in-depth documentary about this incident maybe 10 (I'm guessing) years ago which included more in-depth interviews. It was utterly captivating, and brought me nearly to tears. Can anyone help me out with the documentary title, or the network I might have seen it on, or whether it's available for purchase anywhere?

Re: Any documentaries available?

There are a several, but impossible to get. I was doing some research on documentaries for this particular event. Wikipedia was a great help in seeing what was out there.

Re: Any documentaries available?

There's a "First Person" (Errol Morris) interview with Dennis Fitch, the check pilot who assisted the crew, with an interesting perspective.

Re: Any documentaries available?

Check out the documentary Alert-3. It was produced for with the intent of being used for training material for other fire, rescue and "Disaster" planning. It was produced by George Lindblade.

Alert 3 and Lessons Learned G.R. Lindblade & Co. 2-volume set (60 min. ea) This video program was created from the official accounts of fire suppression, rescue and medical personnel. Documented from hundreds of photos along with videotapes, audio recordings and interviews with the key people who helped turn tragedy into triumph - the triumph of a small but well-prepared emergency response team that made a tremendous difference in this air disaster. The behind the scenes story of the crash and rescue of United Flight 232 is an important training tool as we consider homeland security. Since it’s release in 1989, Alert 3 has become the standard for EMS, CFR and Disaster Preparedness training programs. It is used by agencies around the world and is part of the curriculum for preparedness training at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University. In response to hundreds of calls asking for an additional training tape dealing with the aftermath of the rescue of Flight 232, Alert 3 Lessons Learned is now available to meet the demand for quality training materials in the area of post traumatic stress and critical incident stress debriefing. Community factors are discussed that you may not immediately associate with response to disaster. Public relations, dealing with the media and families who have questions, and the logistics of housing thousands of unexpected visitors to your community, all very much a part of the disaster response.

Re: Any documentaries available?

Not the same programme you were looking for, but also to consider is a documentary from an engineering perspective. It was either the 'Seconds from disaster' or 'Air crash investigations' series of documentaries on dramatic disasters. It does give a dispassionate and methodical approach to discovering the cause of the accident and the steps taken to prevent a recurrence.
