The Lion King : I Just Rewatched This… 22 yrs later.

I Just Rewatched This… 22 yrs later.

So, It's 1994, August. NZ. I saw this at the theatre like the rest of the world and as the story goes - pop culture was changed forever.

I got this movie, along with so many other's on VCR as a kid... as well as audio books etc. The songs were on repeat. The story, one we all know. I probably rewatched it a couple times over the years (not many) until I got the sequel. This and Aladdin remain my childhood animated movie memories. TLK was one I only did rarely because- sad.

Anyway... it's safe to say in the last 20 years I never once rewatched it - because in truth I've been avoiding it. Pop culture references about THAT MOMENT were enough to remind me of the scar that never healed (no pun intended).

It's 2016 and I'm a man now (29 in October) and I just said to myself "do it". I felt nostalgic. Rewatched all the other's plenty... but this was/is the Holy Grail of Disney.

WELL, I laughed. I cried. I laughed again! I cried again... and one thing remains certain - I am sufficiently re-traumatized.

I think I'll wait another 20 years before I ever do that to myself again.

That's quite funny because the rewatch had the opposite effect on me. I appreciated the humor so much more and I really came out of it valuing Timon and Pumbaa more than I ever did. I remember part of the reason I wasn't huge on rewatching this one as a kid/teen was cos I didn't like them much... then again I was having quite an emotional breakdown.

But my love for the Hyena's and Scar remained, I always remember thinking they were absolutely hilarious as a kid and I feel even more strongly today haha.. though it's a dirty/shameful love of Scar once the movie ends... But you can't deny Jeremy Irons' brilliance, it's contagious.

Yeah this is hands down the best ever animated film for me, especially the score. Modern Disney films like frozen are poor in comparison

Re: I Just Rewatched This… 22 yrs later.

The background score is probably the best thing about TLK. It lends a sense of gravitas to the whole movie, elevating it far above any animated movie t hat Disney have made.

I found "Frozen" to be a chore to sit through. Terribly boring and predictable with equally boring characters. "Zootopia" was much more entertaining and engaging for me.

Hey, what happened to my above post? It says deleted by an administrator which means somebody reported it and the mods complied. What did I do wrong besides having an opinion? The OP even responded to me in a polite manner and wasn't bothered by my feelings. Seriously, I want an answer because no matter what my opinion I always work my hardest to be as polite and respectful as possible. Despite some posters claims, I don't even post about this movie that often. This is not the first time this has happened either. I had a topic deleted on the Mulan board before as well. I don't demean anybody, I don't name call, I don't do anything that would warrant this. On the rare occasion I do cross the line, I always apologize and edit my post accordingly. This topic and my Mulan topic aren't examples of that though. This is really unfortunate and feels like an abuse of power.

Wish I had an answer for you. I haven't looked at this post til I got the email of your reply just now. I didn't report anything (being the Op) and have just seen that your original post was deleted.

The best thing about imdb is sharing our critiques and opinions with a forum of others. I don't agree with agreessively asserting your point though or ramming it down other people's throats. So perhaps you've upset someone and they've tracked your posts and maliciously reported you.

Anyway. Nothing here on my end... Thanks for your engagement anyway.

I really hope this isn't the case and it shouldn't be. I've had some passionate discussions from time to time, but I don't believe myself to be on bad terms with anyone at this moment. I know it wasn't you who reported me and sadly I will probably never know who it was unless they come forward and give me an explanation.

It's just a kids movie bro. Watch it, enjoy, then move on.

I still love the soundtrack most of all when I look back on this film. Plus I love Timon and Pumbaa most of all out of all the characters. I still remember seeing the movie in the theater when I was three years old and the following Halloween I was Simba and I made my younger brother be Nala.
