Now and Then : Did Teeny annoy the crap out of anyone else?

I really detest people with attitudes like Teeny's. Desperately attention seeking (which wasn't just from her parents' ignoring her), especially from men, eager to do whatever it took to get them to look at her twice (if you've seen pics of the deleted carnival scene you'll know what I mean), and she was easily the most immature of them all. Also rude, like when she told Chrissy she was fat (she did have some pudge but she wasn't really fat, but friends shouldnt' do that any more than they should call each other twigs). She could be a good friend but that seemed to mostly be since she and Sam were the most childish and idealistic. If you're a Teeny nazi, just don't reply. This is about who DOESN'T like Teeny.

This is my opinion:

There will always be that girl in your group at school who's interested in boys before everybody else and learns about the world earlier.

If Teeny was my friend as a kid, I probably would have asked her all the questions I wouldn't have asked my mum - she seemed more mature than the other girls in the group and even in a bit of a fantasy world, wanting to be an actress and being all dramatic.

Calling Chrissy fat was mean. But if you've ever been a kid then you'd know that's just how kids are - they say mean things and don't realise the effect it has.

that's true - about what u said about her calling chrissy fat. these girls are 12 years old! they dont know everything. they're just beginning to learn and make mistakes.

I remember saying a lot of things at that age that i shouldnt've, and i learned that as i got older. i said something like that once to my best friend, and still remembered it years later and felt bad about it. so, kids do say mean things, but the majority dont know it at the time

I didn't care much for her, but I had a friend who was a lot like her.
She was always stuffing her bra, she was boy crazy, she had her walls plastered with half naked boys from tiger beat or somesuch, she knew all about sex and orgasms before any of us, she always had a cosmo (her mom bought her a subscription to cosmo at 11, who does that?)

Luckily I had a smart mom who told me the facts of life way before my friends could give me their distorted versions of it. I had a friend who actually asked what a very specific part of the female anatomy was when we were 15, because nobody had ever actually given her a talk, she got the flower/garden hose story, no joke.

While her character is unlikable, I think most groups of young girls have a girl just like her in it.

I liked Teeny. I was more annoyed at Chrissy, she was always telling them not to do this, or not to do that. I dislike when people try to control things.

anyway yes teeny was SO FRICKING ANNOYING!! i cant stand obnoxious slutty girls who think cussing, smoking, and hanging out with boys makes them cool and sexy its the opposite. i dislike when people have no self-respect and then make fun of those who do, like chrissy.

I agree in fact, people exactly like Teeny seem to have hte most friends who are typically exactly like that. My own cousin is (and I'm much more of a Chrissy/Sam hybrid, except unlike Sam I am not into serial dating, smoking, seances, etc; it's more for the reading and personality) and it's awkward with her. It's totally easy to see how Chrissy and Roberta stayed such good friends (and I think they would have even if one moved away) and how uncomfortable and weird it was for/with Sam and Teeny. Teeny was too promiscious, shall we say, and shallow, and Sam was so depressing.

Young Teeny didn't bother me as much, but I couldn't stand her adult character. Maybe it was Melanie Griffith's portrayal (that irritating little girl voice) but she just seemed really materialistic and proud of how amoral she was. The part where she brags about breast implants really irked me; "36D and worth every penny!"

I think most of us knew someone like her who was more sexually aware before everyone else was. In my class, the girls like that were all pregnant before they reached twenty!

I loved her when I was a kid, but I couldn't stand her or Sam when I rewatched the film a few months back. Neither of them ever had anything nice to say to Chrissy. I understand that there is usually somebody in a group of friends that is the butt of all the jokesbut there was never any indication that either of them actually liked Chrissy. It totally shattered my old view of the film, as I used to think of them as four amazing friends lol

I totally agree, although I never really payed attention to that. Something about them (besides Teeny's generally annoying, boy-chasing behavior) always annoyed me, maybe that was it. And strangely, besides Robert, Sam is probably the most popular girl with fans, although many also seem to like Teeny too (and poor Chrissy hardly has any fans, even though she is the most well-grounded and has the happiest life when they grow up, and Sam and Teeny "Divorced 3 times" Tercell obviously don't).

^agreed. I disliked those two the most, teeny especially. if they didnt like Chrissy or her company why hang out with her? I guess because Roberta liked her (although she could have sometimes been nicer too, but they eventually became the closest 2 and never lost touch with each other/moved away) and they liked Roberta.

That's pretty similar to how my "friends" in middle and high school were now that I think about it I was the quiet, better mannered one (not bragging, I mean it- I hated cussing, I teased them but I never made rude jokes or anything, I was a wallpaper student pretty much). people seemed to tolerate my presence because I was hanging out with someone they liked more (who tolerated my presence because I guess I was someone to talk to when there werent better people around). It made me sad to realize and still does, because I always have tried to show more loyalty and kindness to them than any one of them ever did to me, but I guess they didn't really count me as one of their friends, or else they would have (but still).

then again, some of them were definitely my friends and still didn't. Ah, well. I've got a teeny/Roberta hybrid for my best friend and though she says some unfriendlike things to me I'm glad I have her.

Funny thing is, size-wise we are exactly like how Roberta and Chrissy do turn out and I do get on people's cases to not cuss around me. We love to do the "Roberta, you know how I feel about swearing" lines every time we watch this.

I liked teeny, I thought she was cool, if I was 12 or 13 again, I'd definitely want her as my girlfriend, she was really cute!
