Angels and Insects : Soundtrack

Soundtrack

I highly recommend the soundtrack to this often underrated film. (However, everyone is entitled to their opinion, naturally). The music is very sensual and beautiful. I let a friend of mine going through a really difficult relationship loss borrow the film and not only did he really love the erotic feel of the film, but the music made a huge impression on him. Even if you aren't a real fan of the film, the music just puts you in a sedated mood. It is only available on import, but it isn't very difficult to locate. Is anyone else a fan and/or owner of this soundtrack? I would be curious to hear other feedback.

Re: Soundtrack

If I'm not mistaken, the soundtrack to this film is by the Balanescu Quartet, which kicks ass. I've never seen the film, but I do have the sound track. You might also want to check out Maria T and Possessed by the Balanescu Quartet, if you liked this sound track.

Re: Soundtrack

I too have the soundtrack to this. It's my favorite movie and I fell in love with the score when I first saw it. I love Mark Rylance and Patsy Kensit forever just for this film. The only thing missing on the soundtrack is the music they play at the very beginning, when they are dancing as a group. I think I will get married to the sad waltz they play when William and Eugenia first dance together.

Re: Soundtrack

I love the score as well. It rather reminds me of Richard Robbins score for Remains of the Day. The music of both films takes me back to a specific place in time, right after highschool when anything seemed possible. The music, to me, conveys a feeling of tragic longing. You want something to work out and follow a mapped out plan in your mind, but alas, life has its' own plans.

Re: Soundtrack

Interesting comparison, with Richard Robbins. Another obvious influence is Michael Nyman. Alex Balanescu was the leading member (even more, the spirit) of the Michael Nyman Band during its best years.

I had the huge luck of attending a Balanescu Quartet concert at my town of Ciutadella de Menorca and they played the best themes of Angels & Insects (Waltz, Charades) at the end, as out-of-program pieces. I'll never forget that moment. Thanks to Alex Balanescu for that special musical gift!
