Britney Spears : Such a let down at the VMAs
Re: Such a let down at the VMAs
Very true. It was disastrous and uninspiring. Plus, it was a tough act to follow going right after Beyonc. There was nothing special or memorable about it. It was like G-Eazy featuring Britney Spears.
She should never EVER step on that stage again. It's rather bittersweet. The VMAs helped her career soar and also kinda buried it. But I will at least give 2007 credit for her trying after having such a tumultuous year. This was NO triumphant return. If she wanted to show the world she was truly back with a vengeance, then she truly failed.

Re: Such a let down at the VMAs
Fact is when she is live so to speak against real artists like Beyonce who i don't even like Britney just looks like a bad karaoke act. Her lack of talent is all to obvious.
Re: Such a let down at the VMAs
Super forgettable, I'm glad I didn't drive to my friend's house to watch it.
Her lipsyncing is super obvious, especially when she's holding the mic and the words don't match what she's mouthing. It was a bit embarrassing when I was watching it a few minutes ago on YouTube.
Make Me, appears to be a song that she should be able to sing live. She should probably take note of Rihanna, who is not the best vocalist out there but at least she sings half of her songs live. She typically has her pre-recorded vocals filling in parts of the songs, but during those parts, Rihanna just closes her mouth and moves away from the mic. Britney should do something like that and sing certain parts of her songs live, but she appears to run out of breathe so fast. Right after Womanizer, when she's about to introduce Break The Ice, she sounds so out of breathe and it's only been two songs.
I still like her but I don't get excited over any new songs or performances that she has. I like her first 4 eras. Any new songs or performances or appearances are just meh, to me. But at least she's rich and no longer has the paparazzi obsessed with her.

Re: Such a let down at the VMAs
Really lame
Re: Such a let down at the VMAs
Was anyone truly expecting something more than what 5b4we got? I wasn't expecting her to do anything shocking, but she still could have sang live. Her pretending to sing the lyrics of both songs was laughable.
Re: Such a let down at the VMAs
I'm sure her Vegas show isn't any better then this performance was which makes you wonder why are people going to see something this lame? It's actually an insult to pay money to watch someone just lip sync and dance badly and not even put out the effort to try to sing live or do anything that takes talent.
Re: Such a let down at the VMAs
I personally really enjoyed the performance.
It was her first time back on that stage in almost a decade after fvcking up something she truly cares about, that took a lot of courage!
She was sabotaged too. Her mic was supposed to be on with playback during the "Me, Myself & I" part of the mix, that's why she pointed to it.
I think people are being way too critical She's putting herself out there.
Music critics loved the performance, one of the only ones that was praised from the VMAs

Re: Such a let down at the VMAs
People are bored and tired of the lip syncing when other artists are singing live all over the stage. She's obviously still popular but I think she needs to stop cheating people with glitz, glamour, smoke and mirrors and actually sing live - even if just occasionally.
People say at this stage she has nothing left to prove however I am afraid she does. She needs to prove she can still sing live! Those who say she 'slayed' are either lying, deluded or very easily satisfied.
I appreciate she has had her demons, even an on going battle with anxiety, however I do hope she is building her confidence to take her performances that one step further. i.e. Live!
Why cant she do something like this again:

Re: Such a let down at the VMAs
Are they? She has been lip-syncing for awhile, it's not like it's big exciting news to anyone.
Every other pop artist lip-syncs
Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Katy Perry, all of them do it
I just said Spears was supposed to sing live with playback but her mic fvcked up, and she did no other kinds of spectacles at the VMAs other than the hands grasping for her That was a pretty simple and standard performance that she just looked happy and energetic performing.
She also sang on Carpool Karaoke recently and sounded very humble and beautiful:
You can actually hear her!
I think she is just tired of having her voice criticized, whether it's the real one or not, and now she is too scared to try a live performance.
But you're right, she has had full live vocals in the past!
People who keep saying that the lip-syncing is a problem are not even looking that far into the whole persona that is Britney Spears

Re: Such a let down at the VMAs
totally agree with you. everyone knows britney lip syncs but that doesnt make it right. and yes other artists do it OCCASIONALLY usually on tv shows or talk shows where setting up live music is a hassle, or on occasion to save their voice but dont pretend that any major artist does it even remotely as much as britney.
the fact of the matter is that once music stopped selling artists had to step up their game in the live performance department because thats where all the money is made, on tour and promotion.so britney just pales in comparison to these newer stars who sing live AND dance. so even the argument that she cant sing live because she dance is out the window look at beyonce.
im sorry but the bar is just higher nowadays and britney just looks like a glorified drag queen on stage lip syncing her own songs in bad costumes and minimal dancing.
i like her as a person but i am not deluded enough to think what shes doing requires any talent.

Re: Such a let down at the VMAs
When people are earning the type of money Britney is, they shouldn't get credit for merely "putting themselves out there." Fans like you are the reason Britney hasn't tried at anything since 2004.

That's what I think, too. I wasn't expecting anything legendary like she did in 2000 or 2001. (Unfortunately, I think her days of performing like she did her in prime are over.)
I thought she had good chemistry with G-Eazy (except for the tiny awkward moment when he touched her face and she pulled back, shaking her head nolol, c'mon Brit, you should have let him kiss you!! :p)
When the "Me, Myself, and I" song come on, she looked so happy and confident. More confident than she has in a long time. And it would take a lot of guts to go back out there on the same stage she did the infamous 2007 performance.
As for the lip-syncing I can see where it bothers people but it's nothing new.

Re: Such a let down at the VMAs
I think that was part of the act. She had to pretend miming, if she kissed him, the track would still play, though nobody thinks she was singing would just have been a media field day.
Re: Such a let down at the VMAs
Was he trying to kiss her? I really didn't get the impression, but after the performance, I kept reading that he tried to kiss her and she pulled back. I would had 111cimagine that would had been the "shocker" of the night. I thought her pulling away from him was part of the choreography for the song.
It reminded me of Coldplay and Rihanna's "Princes of China" performance, where they're both so close to each other at the end of the song and it looks like they're about to kiss but they don't because they've hurt each other so much, according to the lyrics of the song.
I wonder if the rapper will come out and say that he tried to kiss her on stage. After all, she did get very hands on with him, by touching his crotch twice. A kiss would had kept the performance on the news a little longer.
At this point, as a fan, I don't expect any legendary performances from Spears. I went to her Vegas show, and even I felt like it was forgettable. She does play it too safe these days, but she's still making millions of dollars a year. All I can say is that I'm happy for her, she's healthy, still working, has more privacy than she's had in years and still making the big bucks.

Re: Such a let down at the VMAs
Her performance at the AMA's should have been her VMA's performance, except with Make Me thrown in there. I don't really get why she and her team went so simplistic with the performance and then made it all about G-Eazy towards the middle of it. Her past performances have all been over-the-top spectacles and that's what people expect from her.
If she wanted to go with the simplistic route, she should've done like a completely stripped down, acoustic performance of Make mejust her, and a mic, a really beautiful dress and her natural singing voice.

This makes me appreciate the so called fiasco of 2007 even more cause at least that was all Britney
