Donald Trumps Twitter silence on Melissa McCarthys Internet-shaking Saturday Night Live performance might say more than all his responses to Alec Baldwin combined, but McCarthys fellow comics havent been nearly so quiet.

Melissa McCarthy is a modern-day Jackie Gleason, says Seth MacFarlane. A 108 MPH fastball, praises Seth Meyers. Artie Lange, known for his work with Howard Stern and on SNLs old rival Mad TV, calls McCarthys season-stealing turn as good a performance as TV has ever seen.

McCarthys surprise appearance Saturday as Trump press spokesman Sean Spicer sputtering, irate, combative, unhinged has brought the long-running SNL massive attention (and good ratings), even for a season that dropped Baldwins portrayal of Trump squarely into the center of the cultural zeitgeist.

And while the president didnt hold back in his dislike which might be too soft a word for Baldwin, he hasnt tweeted a word on McCarthy (yet). Spicer himself said last night the performance was cute but took good-natured issue with the gum-chewing.

Now, the website Politico, citing anonymous sources, reports that Trump was rattled. And that it was Spicers portrayal by a woman that was most problematic in the presidents eyes. And that the unflattering send-up by a female comedian was not considered helpful for Spicers longevity in the grueling, high-profile job. A top Trump donor, Politico writes, says the president doesnt like his people to look weak.

On MSNBCs 11th Hour tonight, contributor Nicolle Wallace, who was a senior advisor on the John McCain-Sarah Palin campaign, said she saw first-hand how SNL can needle its political targets. Tina Feys famous portrayal of Palin, Wallace said, not only got under Palins skin, it got in her head.

In any case, McCarthys peers, along with members of Trumps various opposition parties and even an ex-ballplayer, have been laughing for days. Rosie ODonnell was so impressed, shes offered to join the party and play Steve Bannon:

Speaking of ridiculous, not much has been made of Trump's tweets about Kristin Stewart's love life. Hard to imagine the so called, "Leader of the Free World" once being obsessed with the relationship of KS and Robert Pattinson. A glimmer of adolescence in the man child.

I love how he felt the need to give relationship advice to Robert Pattinson via Twitter back in 2012, especially when he's on his 3rd marriage and was recently caught on that infamous tape discussing cheating on his current wife while she was pregnantclassy!

"You're going to need a bigger boat"

I know! I thought the same thing when the serial adulterer tweeted that Kristin would cheat on Robert.

SNL needs to do a whole show of skits about Trump with every woman Trump has criticized playing himRosie as Trump, Meryl Streep as Trump, "Pocahontas" EW as Trump and any other woman he has disparaged. It would be awesome!!
