The View : Taxpayers paid nearly $100K for a 2 night get-away for Eric Trump

Taxpayers paid nearly $100K for a 2 night get-away for Eric Trump

Right before his father's inauguration, taxpayer paid just under $100,000 for a 2-night get-away to Uruguay for Eric Trump. The trip was classified as a 'business meeting'.

The younger son of Trump visited the South American nation as a representative of the Trump Organization, staying at the posh seaside town of Punta del Este, dining at exclusive beachfront restaurants and speaking at an 'ultra exclusive party'.

The Secret Service agents hotel rooms totaled nearly $90,000 for the 2 night stay, while the US Embassy spent nearly another $10,000 for staffers to stay in hotel rooms and 'support' the Secret Service.

There is a Trump Tower in Punta del Este, but according to Eric the family doesn't own it - they just "license their name" to the property owners. The condos in the tower cost $550,000 - $8M, while Trump charges between $100,00 - $1M for use of his name. The building is scheduled for completion in 2018.

Sleep tight, America.

Re: Taxpayers paid nearly $100K for a 2 night get-away for Eric Trump

OMG!!! This must be the FIRST time in the history of the Republic that the taxpayers were on the hook for government business travel.

Just wish PVD would look up the cost of Michelle Obama's trip to Spain in 2010. According to the White House, the Obamas "paid their own way"! Ha ha, I enjoy good comedy.

However the added expenses including Secret Service brought the tab up to $467,585 for the taxpayers, most of whom could probably only afford "stay-cations" as Michelle 'Antoinette' Obama spent big bucks on HER vacation.

Your hypocrisy is AGAIN, stupefying!

Well can't really blame our former First Lady. There's been a lot of talk from Black Leaders about reparations for slavery. I guess Michelle was taking out HER reparations in free vacations. (hmmmmwonder how much cotton she actually picked???)

Eric Trump is not the First Lady. We always paid for travel expenses for First Ladies, including Nancy Reagan, Laura Bush, and Barbara Bush. Why shouldn't we for Michelle?

This sounds exactly like the kinds of posts that Storm did on Obama. Please tell me that you can recognize this hypocrisy.

This in no way is the same as the crap Storm spewed. When did Eric Trump become president? Is he a minor child of the sitting president? Why should we pay any travel bills for him? That is hypocrisy from the right or anyone else that can't see the difference. His grown children should not be involved in his presidency at ALL.

Re: Taxpayers paid nearly $100K for a 2 night get-away for Eric Trump

Ivanka Trump also boarded Marine One with her father when the made the 'surprise trip' to honor the fallen Navy Seal this past Wednesday. Why was she on Marine One? She is not a government official, and didn't belong on that aircraft. She has no role in her father's Presidency, and should have never made the trip with him. Bring an elected person from congress with you, or an appointed government official, or your wife.

Not your 35 year old daughter who has no role in the White House.

Re: Taxpayers paid nearly $100K for a 2 night get-away for Eric Trump

Well, only 1000 more such trips and they will catch up with the Obamas!

Godspeed!

Re: Taxpayers paid nearly $100K for a 2 night get-away for Eric Trump

When did Eric Trump win an election or marry a president? He's not a minor. So, why are we paying for anything?

Re: Taxpayers paid nearly $100K for a 2 night get-away for Eric Trump

You mean if he's a minor, American taxpayers should be footing the bill for his travels?

Obama is the only one who claimed he would forego taking vacations as president. Of course, he lied. But what else is new?

Did Obama ever tell the truth?

Re: Taxpayers paid nearly $100K for a 2 night get-away for Eric Trump

That is correct.

Re: Taxpayers paid nearly $100K for a 2 night get-away for Eric Trump

What does ANY of that have to do with Eric Trump, and yes, if he was a minor, I would expect American tax payers to pay for some of his expenses, just like we did for President Obama's girls, President Bush's girls, etc.

Since the boards are ending, I sincerely hope you seek some help for your myopic view of the world.

Calm down, self-proclaimed Miss Fairness of all Creatures Great and Small.

It has to do with the fact you never held Obama accountable for his mountain of lies. This is important.

Re: Taxpayers paid nearly $100K for a 2 night get-away for Eric Trump

I'll give Obama credit for covering up the biggest story during his Presidency - the Bowling Green massacre! How in the world he was able to hide it from everyone except Kellyanne Conartist is beyond me.

Re: Taxpayers paid nearly $100K for a 2 night get-away for Eric Trump

Once again, what does anything about President Obama, Mrs. Obama, and their children have to do with paying Eric Trump's travel bills? You are incapable of staying on topic.

Re: Taxpayers paid nearly $100K for a 2 night get-away for Eric Trump

Nothing.

But, since we are on the topic of American taxpayers footing the bill for the president and family, why have you never once criticized the Obamas for their record-shattering vacation expenses?

Re: Taxpayers paid nearly $100K for a 2 night get-away for Eric Trump

I'm not complaining or criticizing tax payers paying for a president, a first lady, or minor children's travel. So, if Trump, Melania, and little Baron want to go on vacation, I have no issue. The issue at hand is paying for ERIC TRUMP'S travel expenses. Your comprehension skills are seriously low.

Re: Taxpayers paid nearly $100K for a 2 night get-away for Eric Trump

Were Eric Trump's travel expenses legitimate? Or did he go on safari and call it 'work'?

Re: Taxpayers paid nearly $100K for a 2 night get-away for Eric Trump

Were Eric Trump's travel expenses legitimate?

No, he doesn't work for the government. So his expenses - paid for by taxpayers - was not legitimate. Why is that so difficult for you to comprehend?

Re: Taxpayers paid nearly $100K for a 2 night get-away for Eric Trump

It sounds to me like it was a business meeting. Not to you. To me, it does.

Case closed!

Re: Taxpayers paid nearly $100K for a 2 night get-away for Eric Trump

Even if it was a business meeting, it wasn't gov't business. If it was personal business, it's a conflict of interest for taxpayers to pay for it.

Re: Taxpayers paid nearly $100K for a 2 night get-away for Eric Trump

Is he now supposed to stop all business meetings now that his father is president?

And can you name one time that Obama and his wife had to travel on separate planes and therefore increase the overall cost of the vacation by hundreds of thousands of dollars that you complained?

Did you complain about the billions of dollars Obama gave Iran?

Or the billions he spent taking out Khadaffi?

Or the billions he wasted on Obamacare?

If you had done all those things, your criticisms of Eric Trump would hold more substance. But you didn't. You let Obama do whatever he wanted.

Re: Taxpayers paid nearly $100K for a 2 night get-away for Eric Trump

Is he now supposed to stop all business meetings now that his father is president?

No - let him go on as many "business meetings" as he pleases. Just pay out of your own pocket, and not the taxpayer's. It's that simple. We didn't elect him to the White House, he has no role in government, he should not be lodging on the taxpayer's dime for a $100,000 get-away weekend. It's that simple.

So no security for the son of the POTUS?

Re: Taxpayers paid nearly $100K for a 2 night get-away for Eric Trump

Sure there should be security - but there's a reasonable limit. How many SS agents did he have to have for a weekend get-away, and why did the Embassy have to send 'staffers' to keep the agents company?

He is not the President, the First Lady, or a minor child of the couple. If he needs 'extra security' then let him pay out of his own pocket.

Re: Taxpayers paid nearly $100K for a 2 night get-away for Eric Trump

Whether we like it or not, adult children of the the POTUS & Vice-POTUS do get protection from the Secret Service.

The problem I have is Trump making money off the SS. If any of the Trump children take one of Donald's private jets, the gov't pays the jet owner (Trump) for the SS to travel. Another conflict of interest. The kids can only fly Air Force One if the President is with them.

And that's fine. For a 2 day weekend, why is the hotel bill (alone!) nearly $100,000 to protect one adult?

Re: Taxpayers paid nearly $100K for a 2 night get-away for Eric Trump

No, I don't suppose that he is to be expected to stop all business meetings now that his father is president. It's in our best interests to see to his protection no matter where he is in the world or what he's doing, now that his father is president.

But, since we did elect his father as our president, this is something we've opened ourselves up for. I for one wish we hadn't. It will be impossible to separate where our necessary and legitimate obligations as U.S. citizens to Trump's extended family lie to that of simply being on the hook and footing the bill for the enrichment of Trump's organization.

I sympathized with those on the right (and those in the middle, and yes even those of us on the left) who had concerns about issues of conflict of interests where the Clinton Foundation was concerned. For those of you who shared these concerns it's disingenuous of you to cast a blind eye to this fine kettle of fish we find ourselves in now.
