Favorite Quotes and Moments?

What are your favorite quotes and/or moments in this movie?

Re: Favorite Quotes and Moments?

I think my favorite moment is when James and Edith first see each other and she puts her hand up to his cheek. As for quotes, anything that puts Ida in her place is great!

rewound several times as i was struck how well & realistic the mr gibson & ms shane performed and for the seemingly electric chemistry between them

mrs hamilton : remember when we were young, henry ?

mr hamilton : i thought we still were ...

Re: Favorite Quotes and Moments?

I think one of my favorite quotes is Mr. Hamilton: ..."Why did you raise your eyebrows when I said hell just then? Preacher said hell seventeen times on Sunday, I counted."

Also then look on Ida's face as Edith wins the race is priceless. I laugh histerically everytime.

Re: Favorite Quotes and Moments?

LOL! Oh, I love when Mr.Hamilton says that!

Re: Favorite Quotes and Moments?

Oh man... the closing scene is just so romantic! When Edith runs after him, and he kisses her hand, I love it!!

Oh, and the "what happens next" credits: "Frederick Armstrong married in 1879. And again in 1880. And again in 1885."

Re: Favorite Quotes and Moments?

Just before the race---Mr. Hamilton to Edith "We're already proud of you"

Re: Favorite Quotes and Moments?

I love when Henry says the thing about saying hell and when they're watching the race and he says Saline has never jumped the water before, then when Amy asked what he said he tells her "I said she's doing wonderful darling!"

Re: Favorite Quotes and Moments?

Absolute favorite moment in the movie is where James Percy teaches Edith to dance... so PRECIOUS!!! *sigh* Wow. It's just perfect.

As for quotes... I love all of Henry. He was such a GREAT character. I especially loved the tit for tat with his daughter Amy - and her response to his not joining them on the picnic, "Father's well known for his letters... not for the brilliance of them, mind you, just for their sheer abundance!" To which he responds by wringing her neck playfully with, "You wicked, wicked girl!" *laughter* L-o-v-e it. Best supporting actor, seriously.

Re: Favorite Quotes and Moments?

My favorite quote was Ida saying, "I don't know what you're talking about," six hundred times. It's what I say when I'm about to get in trouble, hehe.

My favorite moment was when Frederick attacks Edith in the garden and James comes to her rescue. I'm a hopeless romantic. He jerks Frederick off of her and scares him away. And then in his next breath, he kneels down to tend to her. "You're trembling." *Fans herself* My, my but that boy moves me.

Re: Favorite Quotes and Moments?

I love when Mr. Hamilton is dying and he is talking to his wife

saying "If I was your father I would have shot me"

and then Mrs. Hamilton saying to Ida "You have dug your grave deep enought Ida. You should find another home for you are no longer welcome in ours"

Re: Favorite Quotes and Moments?

Old post is old, but I've recently revisited this movie due to my aunt's new found love of period romances and decided to gift her this DVD. It made me curious to see what IMDBers might be saying about this film.

Hmm, I think--hands down--my favorite line is one of James': "My heart is neither dead nor cold, it's just none of your business."

Love it. :)

"SUUUUPPPPPEEEERRRRR TOOOOOORNAAAAAADOOOOO!!!!!"
