I never would have guessed that! I would have Friends top 5, along with Cheers. The Fresh Prince Of Bel Air would probably be top 10 along with Buffy and Angel. I will give it thought .

Re: Top 10 tv show

I love your pick of Becker! I don't know if I have it top 10, but definitely one of the most under-rated shows of all-time along with Wings and The George Lopez Show

No particular order, but close

X-Files
Angel
BATMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES (Was the start of many great animated series, and the best Batman so far)
All In The Family
Cheers
Frasier
M*A*S*H (Would be the best ever if Henry and Trapper stayed, but they left because they saw it becoming the Alan Alda show)
The Honeymooners
CSI
Law And Order

Re: Top 10 tv show

IMHO M*A*S*H was the Alan Ada show from episode one on. Still the first three seasons is all I ever rewatch, because they are the funniest. The later characters are "more serious" and "have more depth" but thats why I hold against them: this is a show about war, thus it is about insanity; "more serious" or "have move depth" doesnt cut it, your only weapon left is (black) humor. I think the way Henry died was one of the greatest moments in any war show or movie ever. He was with them for three seasons and then he's gone - and they dont even have time to even mourn him, because they are busy saving the lifes of soldiers.

Never saw the appeal of Cheers. The first two seasons are pretty good, but once Diane Chambers left, that show was pretty much over; what remained was decoration, but not the main plot. Even if she wouldnt have left, the show was about her and Sam dancing around each other, needlessly endlessly, and that would have gotten boring after a while too. But its really sad Shelley Long apparently couldnt handle the fame, she was great. She should have played the Cleopatra of some Asterix and Obelix movie, that "oh but her nose" joke would have worked so *perfectly* with her lolz.

X-Files was OK - but it ran too long and just felt pointless after a while. Just like with Cheers, it was obvious they would have never gotten anywhere, because if they would, the driving force of the show would be gone. I also dont get why the heck Mulder likes Playboy and Skully kind of just tolerates that. Its just weird.

Beckers first season is absolutely wonderful. The next two are very good too. As great as the other actors are, the secret leads are Linda and Bob, though. I wished the show would have had a bit more focus on them.

Re: Top 10 tv show

Becker was great until Bob and Reggie left. I agree X-Files and Cheers ran too long, but most shows do. Cheers had a few good years with Rebecca, although I prefer Diane. M*A*S*H* had a few good years with B.J., but nothing close to the first few years and I liked the extra characters in the swamp (Spearchucker, Ugly John,etc.).
I forgot about Hogans Heroes and Get Smart, they are up there

Re: Top 10 tv show

Can't believe Dollhouse isn't on anyone's list; I think it's such a good show that had huge potential to grow. I liked it better than Firefly... Only things I really loved about Firefly was the western feeling/atmosphere and how it mixed with the futuristic/sci-fi elements and Mal/Nathan Fillion as the main character- he is one dreamy man.

Anyway
1. Buffy the Vampire Slayer
2. Angel
3. Dollhouse
4. Spartacus
5. Weeds
6. Queer as Folk (U.S.)
7. Will and Grace
8. Sex and the City
9 and 10 -Salem + Ash vs. Evil Dead- even though these shows are only on season 3 and season 2 at this point they rank as two of my favorite shows of all time.

Honorable Mentions

American Horror Story
Orange is the New Black
RuPauls Drag Race
The Simpsons
Family Guy
Real Time with Bill Maher
Fringe
Firefly
True Blood

I'll agree about the "huge potential to grow" part. Otherwise the show has for a good reason the nickname "Dullhouse".

Re: Top 10 tv show

Dollhouse would have been on my list but I made a conscious effort to exclusive shows that only got a handful of seasons (Hannibal excluded cause that show is amazing and packed so much into the 3 seasons I got)

I also had to include Scream Queens which isn't even finished with its second season because I am unabashedly in love with that show.

I was in love with Arrow after 2 seasons, I actually called it the best show on tv after 1, but it went south quickly in season 3 and hasn't recovered

Re: Top 10 tv show

1)&2) buffy/angel (can't decide, they belong together)
3) breaking bad
4) firefly

My favorite TV shows

Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Mad Men
Friends
Six Feet Under
Game of Thrones (mostly because I love the books, the show lacks coherence on its own)
Gilmore Girls
The Good Wife
Gravity Falls
Firefly
Top of the Lake

Re: My favorite TV shows

1. Angel
2. Buffy the Vampire Slayer
3. Doctor Who (Classic & Nu - 1. David Tennant 2. Patrick Troughton 3. Tom Baker 4. Jon Pertwee)
4. Once Upon a Time
5. I Love Lucy
6. Mork & Mindy
7. I Dream of Jeannie
8. The White Queen
9. Roswell
10. The Sarah Jane Adventures

Hon. mentions: Dark Shadows ('60s), Star Trek: TOS, The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles, Bewitched, The Addams Family and Family Ties.

Not favorites, but I've seen tons of Happy Days, The Brady Bunch, The Partridge Family, The Munsters, Full House, The Nanny, etc... Basically, I used to have a slight TVLand addiction.

In my youth, I was very fond of Are You Afraid of the Dark?, Goosebumps and So Weird.

I started to watch Game of Thrones, but got distracted. I've also watched significant amounts of Heroes, Dollhouse, Firefly, Bones, Torchwood, The Crazy Ones, etc..., but not under favorites status. And I've sampled random episodes of many other shows (The X-Files, Charmed--which I hate, Smallville, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Freaks & Geeks, Kyle XY, etc...). I've seen a few episodes (mostly in all of the season 1s) of pretty much all of the vampire shows just to have a comparative look-in.

My YouTube playlist activity actually helps reveal my fannishness over what I seem to be most focused on. If we're talking fandoms outside of just television, Star Wars and Indiana Jones would slot in just prior to OUaT. My fanfiction reading history reveals that Bangel, Ten/Rose and Han/Leia are the 'ships I have the most history with, though I have spent significant amounts of time indulging Captain Swan (more on Tumblr--I don't read fic) and Two/Jamie (brotp--have read fic). My Big Finish/BBC Audio history reveals a tendency to listen a lot to David Tennant, Frazer Hines and William Russell (I'd also listen to Nicholas Courtney and Tom Baker read the phone book, but alas, I haven't listened to them quite as much). I also have some major history nerd "fandoms" in Plantagenets (esp. Richard III), Romanovs and Mozart.

Re: Top 10 tv show

I got to say... I'm surprised at the lack of mentions of Doctor Who anywhere on most of these lists.

I heartily recommend both the Classic (1963-1989, 1996) and Nu (2005+) eras for those that haven't tried the show (obviously, a show going back 53 years with 97 missing episodes--damn you, BBC!--will be daunting, so starting with the revival is a good idea). With all the popular genre show picks on these lists, it's an odd omission. And Americans (which I am) are more familiar with it now than they used to be, certainly amongst Internet nerds. It crossed the pond pretty significantly in the last decade. Granted, I'm no Moffat fan (understatement--then again, I kind of like the Jossverse despite really not loving Joss much and crediting the rest of the cooks in the kitchen, too), but that doesn't take away from the many eras I do love.

Do people just not know the show here? Granted, we do have one Whedonite poster here (Burun) whose avatar is the AU Brigadier (or rather, the Brigade Leader) from Inferno. I love seeing it. Poem also posts about DW, though we don't have much commonality in either fandom.

Anthony Stewart Head has had a long association with DW (Big Finish audios and narrating Confidential well before School Reunion), James Marsters was on Torchwood and Juliet Landau was playing Romana III for Big Finish. Eliza Dushku also did a web cartoon for Torchwood.

Once Upon a Time is likewise plentiful with Jossverse actors including Eion Bailey (hyena bully in The Pack/August), Harry Groener (Jiminy's dad), Amy Acker (Nova/Astrid), Emma Caulfield (Blind Witch), Patrick Fischler (Magic Bullet owner/the Author), Christopher Gorham (ghostly James Stanley/Walsh), etc...

And the most hilarious crosspollination of talent has to be between Doctor Who and Star Wars/Indiana Jones and the sheer number of repeat Classic Who actors who played oh-so-British Imperial officers (Julian Glover, Michael Sheard, Leslie Schofield, etc...). David Prowse, Jeremy Bulloch, Warwick Davis and Deep Roy are more examples. Peter Cushing played the human Doctor in the '60s Dalek movies. Even David Tennant voiced a lightsaber droid in The Clone Wars.

The Jossverse is still my #1 fandom of all time, but Doctor Who is a close #2. Star Wars Original Trilogy with a side of Indiana Jones would probably be next (total Harrison Ford fangirl since I was 15).

Doctor rankings:
1. David Tennant (10th)
2. Patrick Troughton (2nd)
3. Tom Baker (4th)
4. Jon Pertwee (3rd)
5. Matt Smith (11th)
6. William Hartnell (1st)
7. Peter Davison (5th)
8. Christopher Eccleston (9th)
9. Peter Capaldi (12th)
10. Colin Baker (6th)
11. Sylvester McCoy (7th)
12. Paul McGann (8th)

Companion rankings:
1. Rose Tyler (Billie Piper)
2. Jamie McCrimmon (Frazer Hines)
3. Ian Chesterton (William Russell)
4. Brigadier Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart (Nicholas Courtney)
5. Jo Grant (Katy Manning)
6. Sarah Jane Smith (Elisabeth Sladen)
7. Donna Noble (Catherine Tate)
8. Romana II (Lalla Ward)
9. Zoe Heriot (Wendy Padbury)
10. Leela (Louise Jameson)

Re: Top 10 tv show

Wow You got some encyclopedic knowledge there nileqt87. Hey is anyone familiar with the TV show First Wave ? I use to watch that show as a early 90s youngin. had a crush on the lead guy, it is kind of a bridge between Buffy and The X -Files, was gonna put Roswell in there two but when you think about it it's more accurate to say Roswell is a alien rift on Buffy/teen dramas. First Wave has more in common with something like X Files or Millennium aesthetically. I fear it hasn't aged well though, more in common with how I feel about Roswell and I use to love that show, though I guess I was more in love with the atmosphere (teen angst and UST) as opposed to the story telling. Kind how what I imagine is happening with Teen Wolf fan base, the mind boggles at how their is a audience for that show / probably how the oldies felt about Xena and Hercules back in the day, am I too old for camp now?? ha ha.

Anyways I don't see any mention of First Wave on any fandom forums of these other shows that are right up its alley (early 90s science fiction) any ways can't say for sure if it holds up but if the description sounds interesting you might want to check it out.

Also, really goes to show how good the writing on Buffy is, right up there with the Xfiles and Friends, it will have a place in history as one of the defining shows of the nineties forever. ;)
