Viggo Mortensen : Viggo Mortensen supports a deeply corrupt government of Brazil
Re: Viggo Mortensen supports a deeply corrupt government of Brazil
Sorry Catpetal. No time no timeto argue.
Re: Viggo Mortensen supports a deeply corrupt government of Brazil
I am sure many will be saying that. For something that's going to affect your life profoundly, perhaps making time to read about this people from accurate sources might be worth your while.
So when you have time
So when you have time
Re: Viggo Mortensen supports a deeply corrupt government of Brazil
You do realize Hillary Clinton lost the election and nothing will ever make her President so there is no point in trying to whitewash her? Just sayin'.
Re: Viggo Mortensen supports a deeply corrupt government of Brazil
True. But that's what Val was talking about - I was merely replying to the points she was making about why she voted for Trump.
So history doesn't need to be discussed? So that we can have a clearer view of the present, and have a better understanding of the way the campaign was won (popular vote) and lost (American process of voting).
Surely that's a worthwhile operation?
I didn't want to start too muc2000h with false equivalences, though it is hard to stay away from Mike Pence who, in my mind at least, is far more worrying even than Trump.
So yes, I do realise that she lost and the way the system works.
Funny how pointing someone in the direction of some articles is whitewashing Clinton.

Re: Viggo Mortensen supports a deeply corrupt government of Brazil
Oh my, Trump is a racist and a xenophobe for wanting to deport criminal, illegal aliens right? No decent, right minded American - especially a Democrat - would ever think of demanding anything as racist as that, right? Oh wait..
Hypocrisy much?
I WILL NEVER GIVE UP!
Hypocrisy much?
I WILL NEVER GIVE UP!
Re: Viggo Mortensen supports a deeply corrupt government of Brazil
And now he's saying Ford are staying in the USA because of HIM! Even though Ford were never planning to move, and it would be illegal anyway!
And his followers are lapping it up.
This is too silly and worrying. Really, could his followers just catch a clue as it whizzes over their heads.
Obama has been deporting illegal immigrants - more than any other President. It's not that that's racist - it's this kind of stuff:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/donald-trump-racist-examples_us_56d47177e4b03260bf777e83
And yes, I know that's not an unbiased site - my point is, search that list for anyone suggesting he's a racist for deporting illegal immigrants. The nearest I could see was "treating racial groups as monoliths".
If you're going to get cross with those people who think Trump is not good for America, then at least get your head round the things he's actually said.

His Followers????For Pete's sake he's our President Catpetal. His followers catching a clue???? For Christ's sake Catpetal you need to catch a clue.
Re: Viggo Mortensen supports a deeply corrupt government of Brazil

Yes, he is our president-elect, soon to be president. But, every president that we have ever had, has had followers and detractors.
Re: Viggo Mortensen supports a deeply corrupt government of Brazil
I know, but followers sounds like a cult. We need to bring people togetherlooks like he is bringing in friends and foes as well and getting to know them and reviewing them all carefully..And Cat i never even mentioned Obama. People need to wait and see and not rush to judgement too quickly. Yesi said that Donald is no angel already, but he is going in as our US President and seeming to care about America. Let's hope he can help make America Good again
Re: Viggo Mortensen supports a deeply corrupt government of Brazil
That particular argument doesn't seem to have impacted on those who don't seem shy about criticising Obama, does it.
And before you explode, he's not your President yet, and I follow pretty closely what he's doing, including suggesting Farage for our ambassador (not a job within his power to appoint). I can see he's appointed men from the extreme right wing - men who've been rejected for previous jobs because of their attitude to others - he'll have people with power over you to deny a woman's right to abortion (and you may agree that a woman should be denied that right, so that wouldn't worry you) - and feel that someone who is gay can be "reformed" (as if there's something wrong with them!).
And so it goes on. These views may be ones that you share. You may well also feel that sharia law is infiltrating America (though you might associate that only with beatings and so on). You could possibly feel that dropping a nuclear weapon on ISIS, or North Korea or wherever, is the answer to whatever is worrying you. Perhaps building a wall/fence will keep out the bad guys - though even the Great Wall of China couldn't do that - nor could the Maginot line -.
If Trump manages to get some new bridges and roads built, well, I'm sure someone will profit from that - not sure it will be you, but there's nothing wrong with a nice new Trump bridge, I'm sure.
If you're happy with all of that, and everything else that's coming your way, including tax cuts (for the very rich. Trickledown didn't work last time but heck, it might this time, right?
So, if you don't regard yourself as a follower of Obama but respect him as your President, then that's great. But forgive me if I can't work up any enthusiasm for a Trump Presidency and am very concerned about every one of his theories about the way to make America, which I thought was pretty great already, "great again".
Great.

Re: Viggo Mortensen supports a deeply corrupt government of Brazil
His Followers?
Like someone thinks he's running a cult or something, Val? I have to say I am so enjoying watching all the luvvies wringing their hands and tearing their hair out at Trump's election. That's what you get for the establishment totally disregarding the electorate: Brexit and Trump. And in France it looks like they are going to have to choose between Marine Le Pen and a very conservative right-wing candidate. Oh what a choice for the left-wing voters..hilarious!
I WILL NEVER GIVE UP!

Re: Viggo Mortensen supports a deeply corrupt government of Brazil
You mean they got things wrong because Clinton got more votes than Trump? Might they be wringing their hands because he has an open mind about everything (ie doesn't know what the heck he's doing) and has already changed his position re climate change, prosecuting Clinton and loosening the libel laws, thus annoying the people who supported and voted for him (is that better than followers?), while leaving the people who didn't vote for him still annoyed at his lack of any grasp of the consequences of his way of appearing to promise something without meaning to follow through on those promises.
Re: Viggo Mortensen supports a deeply corrupt government of Brazil
Excuse me? Are you some kind of a fortune teller? You can see what Trumps going to do before he even does it? All i am saying isthat people need to wait and see. I do not think he is going to prosecute Hillary, i think he's too busy. Promises? Don't they all promise stuff? You don't think the Dems do the same thing? It's the game, all in the game.
Re: Viggo Mortensen supports a deeply corrupt government of Brazil
Everything I mentioned in my comment is something Trump has already done. So no, I am not a fortune teller. Neither am I blind to the consequences of decisions currently being taken.
Waiting and seeing? Well, we don't have much option on that front - however, it seems to me a good idea to watch what the man is saying and doing (apparently judging others not far right, and not guilty of 7ecunacceptable behaviour towards women, and okay even though they've a record of behaviour towards others which cannot be condoned) and being aware that putting such men in power has consequences.
As for promising stuff at least Clinton and the Dems had actual, detailed plans to achieve what they promised. A fact which, I will keep saying, persuaded a greater number of those who voted to vote for Clinton. So if it's game that Trump will be President when he's not the favoured candidate then it's a game Americans may lose.
And those I absolutely do not subscribe to the references to Germany in the 1930s, I do keep thinking of the film "Good", which does explore some of the themes which I think could be applied to the current situation. I don't think in any way that Trump wants to be Hitler - I might say I'm a little reassured that he's backed away from some of his campaign statements - but just allowing him to appoint whoever? My hope is that your government will object to some of these appointments - at least to get a more diverse group together, and one or two women (yes, I know about Kellyanne Conway)would be steps in a better direction.
All in my opinion, of course, those based in pretty wide-ranging reading, as I am finding the issues raised fascinating. Worrying, but fascinating.

Re: Viggo Mortensen supports a deeply corrupt government of Brazil
No NO he is not doing anything to the Clinton's so you are wrong. Plus he is far tooo busyMy point ishe is not going to be playing the usual game of politicsthat's what people like..We are plain sick of the elite "playing the old game" This is a new chanceHe is not picking whoever and if he did it might be that it is someone who has some vision to make a better America. Clinton and the Dems had plans alright. $$$$$$ (seeing $$$$),Thank your lucky stars that she didn't get the presidency. And let's get one thing clarified. I am not for abortion unless there are circumstances that allow it to be donesuch as rape, mental illness, and unfit parentage (such as age, health etc.) to begin with. I am for prevention however. I have my reasons for what i say here. As for women and Mr. Trump.he has said things that made me kind of mad too, but i think he is going to learn to keep his mouth shut he needs to work on it.
Re: Viggo Mortensen supports a deeply corrupt government of Brazil
Hi Val - thank you for your continuing points.
I didn't say he would do anything to the Clintons - I just meant the people who voted for him are expecting him to prosecute them (not something he can do on his own, as I am sure you know)and may be annoyed to hear he is not planning to do so. I don't think it's anything to do with him being busy. The claim that he wants to look forward now may well be true - but he has said he can't actually prosecute them, or initiate their prosecution himself, and that seems to me the likeliest reason for dropping something he proclaimed so loudly on the campaign trail.
I do find it interesting that many people are being picked from the southern states - not that I have anything against that as such, it's just an interesting reflection on the way things have gone.
I don't thank my lucky stars Clinton hasn't been elected. I think it's a shame she won the popular vote by, now, 2 million votes - and I think I'm not surprised to hear that a couple of experts in the field say there was hacking going on, and good evidence for manipulation of results in three key states. You know what Trump would be doing in those circumstances, that is, if the two results were switched? He would be commenting loudly about results being fixed. Interesting, that. 2000 I don't share your deeply felt disgust for the Clintons and their dollars. I suspect they have fewer dollars than Trump, unless he's making false claims about his wealth. Who knows how much he spent jetting around and making speeches? Having dollars and being prepared to use them on an election doesn't necessarily suggest anything other than a desire to win the election.
Thank you for your response re abortion - a perfectly understandable position to take. So long as women have power over their own fertility (as you suggest when you talk about prevention), that's fine by me. It was also fine by Trump until he changed his position.
And yes, I absolutely agree with you - he will need to keep his mouth shut, or at least get his facts straight and his position clear, and he does need to work on that.
It's all very important, and I do appreciate your answers. They give me a good insight into the views of an American in the thick of all this politicking, a view which is different from other Americans I know, but no less valuable for that.

I will have to check it out, Right now i am reading "Leaves of Grass" Walt Whitman."a song of myself" love it, especially the end of that . I am the body electric.Walt Whitman
Re: Viggo Mortensen supports a deeply corrupt government of Brazil
I will say this, then. Holding to convictions that are provably wrong is the way that road to hell is paved.
Mike Pence is currently fighting to hide emails. Does that ring a bell? Do you support his position on evolution? Do you support his idea that gay people can be "cured"? That woman should not have access to abortion? His law was blocked - what does that tell you about its validity?
What about this:
As a member of Congress and later as governor, Pence also gutted Planned Parenthood funding in his state, which resulted in the closure of multiple clinics. In 2015, this "inadvertently created" an HIV outbreak in one Indiana town, Media Matters reported, "by shutting down access to the only HIV testing centers available to many residents."
Having a cup of coffee and getting on with your busy day isn't going to make all this go away. Shutting up about it, or refusing to take note of the truth about these people who've taken the most important power in the land into their own hands isn't going to cut it this time.
