Everybody Loves Raymond : No more message boards!

No more message boards!

IMDB will be disabling the message boards on February 20.

Re: No more message boards!

I just saw that. I find it sad. They said "we have concluded that IMDb's message boards are no longer providing a positive, useful experience for the vast majority of our more than 250 million monthly users worldwide." I have seen a lot of hating & bullying on the boards but why not work at ending that instead of completely removing the boards. There are many users who can follow rules. 😢

Re: No more message boards!

I totally agree with you...why can't people just adhere to the "if you can't say anything nice don't say anything at all" policy? If they could just start a policy of disallowing comments that have nothing to do with the thread subject, it would eliminate a lot of the vicious comments that have become too common.

Re: No more message boards!

There is a lot people complaining on IMDB's Facebook page. There is also a petition.

Re: No more message boards!

I will miss it very much. I've enjoyed getting other people's thoughts and interpretations and having discussions. I haven't experienced any thing bad, only one or two but wasn't aimed at me. Other times I choose to ignore if the thread was going that way.

I shall miss people on this post, it's been very entertaining. Good luck to you and maybe we'll pop up somewhere else and continue with lively debates. 😀👍

Re: No more message boards!

I think Reddit is similar, with messages boards on films and series.

There's actually a petition people are signing to keep the boards up.

Re: No more message boards!

This is such a bummer! However, the reason is not what everyone thinks--it's not because of any negative interactions on the board, but simply because the board is being eclipsed, and therefore replaced by social media.

Re: No more message boards!

That is absolutely stupid! Nobody cares about their Facebook or Twitter page.

Re: No more message boards!

Unfortunately, IMDb states otherwise:

Increasingly, IMDb customers have migrated to IMDb's social media accounts as the primary place they choose to post comments and communicate with IMDb's editors and one another. IMDb's Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/imdb) and official Twitter account (https://twitter.com/imdb) have an audience of more than 10 million engaged fans. IMDb also maintains official accounts on Snapchat (https://www.snapchat.com/add/imdblive), Pinterest (https://www.pinterest.com/imdbofficial/), YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/imdb), and Tumblr (http://imdb.tumblr.com/).

Re: No more message boards!

I hardly ever see anyone post on their Facebook page.
