The King of Queens : what i dont understand….
Re: what i dont understand….
At the very end of the episode, don't they reveal that Kelly got a big financial settlement due to a botched breast surgery?

Re: what i dont understand….
I thought Deacon and Kelly said they had been slowly saving up?
Re: what i dont understand….
Yeah, the whole point and main theme and central idea of the episode is that they received a settlement from botched boob job that allowed them to buy the vacation house.
Re: what i dont understand….
Yes, agreed. Which is all shown in that video clip that I linked above.
Re: what i dont understand….
Yes the funny part was, Doug & Carrie were speculating on how they could afford a vacation house, and one of them said "maybe they got a settlement from a botched boob job" as if it was a ludicrous idea.
Then it turned out to be true.
Gee Woodle, Space Kadoodle!

Re: what i dont understand….
Yep.
And then the vacation house was never mentioned again in any subsequent episodes.
It was promptly forgotten!

Re: what i dont understand….
The best part is at the end, when Kelly looks down at her chest and says to Deacon, "You can't tell, right?". He says, "No, not at all", turns away and pulls a pained expression.
I really like this episode.

Yeah, Deacon's facial expression is priceless.
Re: what i dont understand….
Installment loan plan.
Re: what i dont understand….
This might be my least favorite episode of the entire series.
Can I refill your eggnog, get u something to eat, drive u out 2 the middle of nowhere leave u 4 dead?

Re: what i dont understand….
Even the awful one where they play The Honeymooners, Brian's Song, and All My Children? {shudder}
Re: what i dont understand….
Deacon and Kelly were always shady anyway......

Kelly, yeah. Deacon, not so much. He was always a straight shooter.
Re: what i dont understand….
Maybe so. Their kids, though...... well, the older one, anyway. Forget possibly being gay, the kid could've killed Spence and didn't care. He was old enough to understand the concept of an allergy; let's face it, there was something else going on there.

On a related side-note:
I could not stand the actors who played Deacon's kids. Their performances were cringe-worthy. (Not unlike Mookie Barker.)
I realize that we can't expect the best of performances from kids that age. But, still, even factoring that in ... they were really horrible.
Re: what i dont understand….
Even if the vstion home was fully paid for!they would still have to pay insurance and the property taxes as well. Maybe they just had a lot of credit card debt also.

Yes. They would have had those additional expenses (taxes, insurance, etc.) on top of having to pay for the house itself.
But, the legal settlement for Kelly's botched surgery could also have been used to paid for those additional expenses. No?
Re: what i dont understand….
Or they could have also been being truthful about being saving and being frugal and responsible, and thus been secure enough to pay for all that.

They admitted at the end of the episode that they won a financial settlement. I gave the link above.
Re: what i dont understand….
I know that. What I was saying was that they still could have been telling the truth about scrimping and saving money as well, which would have helped with taxes, insurance, etc., in response to the point that the other poster brought up. I don't need links, thanks.
Re: what i dont understand….
Yes.
They can win a lawsuit and be frugal at the same time.
That seems rather obvious.
In any event, Doug and Carrie were baffled by the Palmer's finances, knowing what they knew about the Palmer's lifestyle.
The point of the episode is that the Palmers were lying to the Heffernans (hiding the fact about the lawsuit windfall).
So, they were probably also lying about being frugal.
It's a comedy.
Not much humor in the Palmers: (A) admitting to being frugal such that they can afford the taxes and insurance, but (B) lying about the lawsuit such that they can afford the house itself.
The vacation house (i.e., a nice luxury that few can afford) was the point of the episode. A sit-com (and its viewers) can hardly care less about mundane issues such as property insurance and tax liabilities. No writer worth his salt is going to bring up such vapid topics in a sit-com.
ALSO: The links were not for you personally and specifically; they were for the general IMDb community.

True. But the other poster asked a realistically based question, so I gave a realistically based answer.

I know that. But there's no need to point me to them.
