Montgomery Clift : Who was better Dean or Clift

It's so hard to choose between the two. Dean only made 3 movies. Personally, I prefer James Dean. I loved him in East of Eden. That was my favorite performance of his. Montgomery Clift was great. I loved him in From Here to Eternity. I think they're both great.

i alot of people say dean took alot from brando but i think.He was more influenced by clift

Dean is overrated. Montgomery Clift is one of the best actors of all time.

Clift. But not by much. Both expressed deep things, but Clift did it a little more compellingly.

Monty. As already said, Dean is overrated because of his early death. Hollywood loves to make big deals out of deaths at peaks of career and milk it. Public loves it too. Monty survived, barely.
Also, seems Dean's roles were quite similar and he didn't seem to have, or shown, as much range as Monty.

Clift, hands down.

I vote for Monty, but tha5b4t's just my opinion. The fact is that I prefer watching his movies over Dean's films.

In my opinion Dean is overrated. Clift is the better actor.

Deniro and cagney.

Even if Dean's career would've pretty much ended there, he would still have had those memorable performances. East of Eden being imo one of the best acting performances of all time.

It is difficult to compare them though because Dean's career was so short.

Yes i have to agree that Clift is the superior actor too dean so is brando elia kazan said of dean's talent .That its all instinct and with that your wrong or right well with dean he was right 95% of the time .He praised brando because unlike dean brando perfected a technique .Brando was a very technical actor but with his personality he was able to make it look seamless and natural like he was relying on just his instincts alone .The man was a genius when you get down to the chassis of the situation . It's no wonder everyone gets compared to him he perfected the craft of acting he is the definition of what it means to be and actor .I'd say monty clift and brando are in the same league with dean being in the minors

Clift and Brando are in the same league and superior to Dean in my perspective as well. If you read about Dean, you'd find out that he tried to copy both Clift and Brando and he considered them his idols. Clift was a true tragedy, a marvelous career fallen into despair and tragedy.
