Urban Legend : What was the class being taught?
Re: What was the class being taught?
Wexler calls it his "Folklore Class" (I think there's also a sign in the class "Introduction To American Folklore", or maybe it was just in the trailer), I believe you can really these (http://www.afsnet.org/?WhereToStudyFolklore).
But, as Jan Harold Brunvand (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jan_Harold_Brunvand) said in one of his Urban Legend books, that the class in the film, isn't really an accurate portrayal of such a class, lol. His book "The Mexican Pet" was referred to during the making of this film and is seen on the Library bookshelf when Natalie grabs the Encyclopedia
"The battle for the soul is fought in the forum of art."

Thanks a lot! I think taking a class like that would be really interesting, but I'm disappointed that the lectures wouldn't actually be like what is portrayed in the film. Thanks for links, much appreciated.

Re: What was the class being taught?
It's from his Encyclopedia of Urban Legends :). I bought the book recently and it's a good read.

When I was in college I took a class on folk tales and fairy tales and part of what we covered was urban legends.

Re: What was the class being taught?
Jan Harold Brunvand himself is a folklorist who teaches (or taught) at the University of Utah.

What was the class being taught?
I think there was a thread on here a while ago asking the same question but I can't remember what the replies were and I'm really interested to know. I'm at university now and I'd love to take a subject like that!
