Deep Rising : Reboot it

Reboot it

..and make it take itself more seriously and this could be a great monster flick

Re: Reboot it

No need to reboot it, its good enough as it is.

Its that man again!!

Re: Reboot it

A big part of it's charm is it's un-seriousness.

Too many horror movies fail because although they have big budgets etc they have no sense of humour on how absurd the situation is.

The best Friday the 13h, nightmare on Elm streets, Tremors, Jaws etc all had humour, whether in the action, characters or how weird the actual events are.

That's why stuff like Saw etc are just sleazey depressing horror porn as you watch people suffer for the sake of suffering.

Re: Reboot it

While, I agree that the reason this movie worked was it's complete lack of taking itself seriously, I would never go so far as to say the Naghtmare on Elm Streets or Friday the 13ths that did the same were the best.

IMO, the first three Nightmares were the best. After that, they all went downhill. Partly because the villain became a joke of himself. Aside from the remake the last few Fridays were a joke of themselves. It became an exercise in which absurd way could they have Jason kill those idiots. There's no point in that.

Really, in neither case, the absurdity of whatever the situation was not what made the movies bad. Horror is good. I like movies that strike fear in you. When you care more about the absurd tongue in cheek deaths than you do the characters dying then that's a problem.

Re: Reboot it

Oh no I agree, but there was a smarter kind of nod and winking humour in them rather then out and out goofyness.

They were no laugh out loud but still they had some humour about it all.

Re: Reboot it

No thanks. The tone of this film is perfect. I believe you're asking for it to be po-faced.

Re: Reboot it

No more reboots please. I'm so tired of every movie being rebooted nowadays. A sequel would be cool.

Re: Reboot it

This movie could not be made today. It's a big budget horror/action/creature feature with a hard R rating. Studios won't spend big money on these anymore. It would have to be pg-13 for them to allow for the budget now.

Re: Reboot it

Sadly, this is 100% spot on.

Re: Reboot it

Super 8 reminded me of this film... and Super 8 doesn't even come close to Deep Rising. These hard R rated creature/action/horror films are done.
