Nicole Kidman : So…what next?
Re: Wicked?
Just wondering any on the set updates/sightings from The Secret in Their Eyes?
Apparently 'Nic' is sick.
Keith Urban was on The Ellen Degeneres Show this afternoon and he was telling her she apparently 'took on a little too much, which she is prone to do sometimes. She's under the weather,' during her recent hectic flights etc.

Re: Wicked?
I don't think the show you saw today was taped today though as Keith was on his way out of LA today. I think the show was recorded Thursday (before Nicole went to Sundance).
Re: Wicked?
It was taped Thurs. Ellen is dark on Fridays and Keith was seen flying out of LAX today.

According to one person on a fanboard her first day of filming is January 28. Like I said before I have no links or way to confirm that but it should be starting soon.

Re: Wicked?
Rather than start a new thread i thought i'd post this here.
I would love to see Nicole in an official type role like a detective or something and a great male lead. Imagine something similar to Silence Of The Lambs. Dark and gritty. Having said dark and gritty i'd like Nicole's darker roles!

Re: Wicked?
I think she'll be playing a judge in "The Secret in their eyes" unless they completely change the story.

Oh i see. Thank you :)
Re: Wicked?
Yup, you described "Secret In their eyes", she's a District Attorney I think.

Re: Wicked?
Hopefully the DA will be a small role and Julia Roberts will determine the film's success. I think Julia has had more successes than "flops" in the last ten years.
It is safer for Nicole to have smaller roles now, as in Paddington, and with names that can draw an audience in.
Am I dreaming or could this be Secret in Their Eyes?

It wouldnt have worked with Kidman, atleast with Redmayne his transformation into a woman gives it a wow factor, with Kidman it would have been more convulted Woman/Man/Woman.
also with all the script problems, it just wasnt worth the risk, Redmayne is age appropriate, he has the right amount of androgyny to his looks, and he just won an OScar perfect match for the role, Kidman would have been miscast.
I find it funny though that they ended up making Redmayne look like Kidman/Blanchett/Chastain hybrid. Ok redmayne we know Kidman wanted this role so bad, so we'll make you look like her.

Re: ot Eddie Redmayne in the Danish girl
I don't think Kidman was right for that role at all. They needed to make her look like a man who dresses like a woman. That's a lot of make up and the result could have ended being embarrassing. I am glad she dropped the rights. It was a wise decision. Besides, once both Thomas Alfredson and Lasse Hallstrm left the project I lost the confidence in it as well.
Re: ot Eddie Redmayne in the Danish girl
I guess.
Nicole looks more like Christine Jorgensen than Elbe.

I know that was an alarm bell especially since they had the money and Lasse Hallstrom isnt really that picky with scripts.
Even if Hooper manages to make something amazing with this, it just wouldnt have worked with Kidman.

Maybe I'm starting to get a little resentful but Redmayne stealing Keatons's Oscar and now also snatching away Kidman's comeback awards role. No,,NO,, I'm not going there! lets leave it she'd be miscast.

Re: it's getting so much Press
Redmayne is the latest new phenomenon. You know how everyone loves something newHe won an Oscar for playing a handicapped genius (if that is not seriously baity and a shoo-in with the Academy, I don't know what is!) and now he's going to impersonate a woman. Actually, it may be easier for a man to impersonate a woman. You seldom see a woman impersonating a man and for good reasonmen are generally larger and more muscular (less filled out in the usual womanly places also) than women; it's harder for a woman to imitate the physical make-up of a man imo.
So I think Redmayne may be perfect for the role. He's like the male Jennifer Lawrence of a couple years agored hot and very bankable now. He may win another Oscar for Danish Girl.
But Nicole has a busy year scheduled without Danish Girl, which she did not need. I think a movie like Lion is perfect because of the human interest story. A lot of her movies are hopelessly gloomy. Lion will have a wonderful ending and a great message, as far as I can tell so that should be appealing to audiences.
Anyway, I'm sure some more new films/roles will turn up for Nicole in 2015 and we'll get to see how she will change her approach to selecting films after her disappointments at Sundance and Berlin. I'll bet there will be some changes in the subject matterdon't you think she was impressed by everyone liking Paddington so much? I'm ok with supporting roles for her, if she can just find a really good script/director and find her mojo as well, get her "groove back".

As you can see from my signature, Kidman does include Paddington in her career trajectory, and I did detect some pride that the film has done well at the box office. Afterall Kidman was heavily included in the marketing, even in China in that press release they're referring to it as a Kidman film.
I'm ok with supporting roles for her, if she can just find a really good script/director and find her mojo as well, get her "groove back".
I think she's not used to playing supporting and it's going to take some time for her to get the right balance.

Mr. Dedlock quote: "I think she's not used to playing supporting and it's going to take some time for her to get the right balance."
I think you're right! A lot of us fans have possibly overlooked that aspect of her career at this point. Hopefully once she finds that right balance she will be offered roles in better films. I don't necessarily believe she won't be offered l5b4ead roles anymore but it's definitely to her advantage to do well in a supporting role in a good film (and experience the sweet taste of success like she did in Paddingtonas well as prove to skeptics that her involvement in a film does not guarantee that it will flop!)

"I think she's not used to playing supporting and it's going to take some time for her to get the right balance."
I said the same a few years ago, but she's had quite a lot of supporting turns since then. "Nine", "Just Go With It", "The Paperboy", "Stoker", "The Railway Man", "Paddington" and now "Genius" and "Lion"
"they should give nicole kidman an oscar for being able to show any emotion after THAT much botox".
Re: it's getting so much Press
She had cameos in Nine and Just Go With It. In Nine she was in the film no longer than 5 minutes. In JGWI, she maybe was in the film for a few minutes more than she was in Nine. As far as I could see, there was nothing in the roles that she could get her teeth into; they were basically meaningless roles.
Unfortunately, as you know, Paperboy, Stoker and Railway Man were box office flops though her performances in all three were praised by critics but hardly anyone wanted to see the films. Cast and directors were above average for all thrb68ee flops but somehow they did not appeal to audienceswhich really has a lot to do with the subject matter. And so obviously Nicole needs to aim for films that will appeal to audiences. I think you had said as much in an earlier post.
So out of four supporting roles, only one film was a great one in terms of box office and critics' praise. But apparently for the other three she did her best with what she had to work with but still got stuck with flops.

Observation Map to the Stars bombed
Julianne Moore's has had three films out in three months, two bombed really badly and "Still Alice" under Sony's tutelage has done Ok but not that great.
Mia Wasikowska fifth flop in a row. When I say flop I mean Stoker a "flop" is her highest grossing film since 2013.
Robert Patti2000nson's fourth indie flop.
Interesting to see how there is no finger pointing.
Had it been Kidman they would have taken a Cannes 2014 picture and slapped it on an article with a damning headline.

But it's so much more fun to point fingers at Nicole, right?
Actually, I'd be interested to see the ratio of successful films to flops in general (across the film industry). Does the film industry produce more successes than flops?

no idea, nor do I care, I just want an announcement soon with ticket purchase packages, I'm assuming it'll be a summer/fall.
Speculation below
The dailymail's theater guy Baz something mentioned last year that Kidman was attached to star in " a month in the Country" which is bring adapted by Patrick Marber and directed by Ian Rickson.
Other possible projects scheduled for the Westend
A Dusty Springfield musical which we know Kidman has tried to adapt to film.

May be it will be a good career move.
May be it'll give her more time and a better perspective towards choosing new movie roles.
Or a new agent.

going to the stage after a string of bad films and flops is "career rehab 101", six months of Nicole Kidman focusing on honing her skills and craft on stage will be a godsend, oh and she cant whisper on stage so all her whispering critcs will love that, but she will be wearing wigs thats a given so those offended by wigs and hair pieces will be dissapointed.
apparently the person adapting the play if it ends up being " a month in the country" is the same person who adapted the Dench/Blanchett film " notes on a scandal", ooohhhh cant wait for more informaiton.

no no, I was hasty in my excitement, its the the screenplay writer, Patrick Marber.
But nothing is confirmed as of yet, she could very well be doing something else or nothing at all, I have to keep my expectations in check.

Lordy saw the crimson peak trailer, Kidman needs to work with Guillermo del Toro in any capacity, or preferably the "Blood Countess" film that I've been peddling for years, those two will create magic together.
Mia W. keeps working wth interesting people, hopefully crimson peak doesn't flop like her last seven films.

Re: So…what next?
I'd be thrilled if Nicole done some theater work. Spice up her resume and deliver a fantastic worthy performance. I'm not really a big fan of theater but for Nicole this would be great and i would definitely love to go.
I also think it would be a good idea if she surrounded herself with the right people and put her trust in people worthy of that. Paddington her people almost didn't tell her about (or something like that i read) and look what a success that was. I've heard people say great things about Nicole in that role. She definitely needs the right team and to choose her projects wisely.
Let's hope that this year works out for her.

Re: So…what next?
its very strange, in the past five years all of her films were made via independent channels, except for Just Go with it and that was a Cameo.
its either she is avoiding doing studio films or they arent offering her anything, its most likely the latter, her agents have to remedy this because I know alot of people who've watched Paddington and were like "Nicole Kidman, its been a while since I've seen her in anyhting".

I think it's that too. Some people have said similar things to me as well about not seeing her much in films. Her agents need to do a better job or if i was Nicole i would get a stronger team.

Theatre? Her whispering wouldn't be heard past the first row. I can't think of an actress less suitable to theatre than Nicole and she's too old now to do more nudity like she did in The Blue Room. Her face isn't expressive and her acting style isn't theatrical enough. Is her live singing good enough to do a musical like Chicago or Sunset Boulevard. She might make an interesting Norma Desmond.

It would be a dream for her to do Norma Desmond, but who'll be her Cecil B Demille?, "All right, Mr. Spielberg I'm ready for my closeup", but maybe after another five to six years.
but who am I kidding it'll go to Cate Blanchett because Cate Blanchett has dibs on all the best roles in Hollywood and eveyrbody wants to work with her and they've got tailor made couture parts ready for Blanchett in a moments notice. Kidman will have to Scrummage through the bins to find some god forsaken smock rags and try to elevate it and make it her own. a big sig and a huff.

Cate only won the oscar last year so of course she is in favour right now. Jeez when Nicole won her oscar she had an after glow of about 6 years when she was offered everything and everyone wanted to work with her. Cate deserves her moment in the sun right now as she's extremely gifted.
Re: Wicked?
Wick5b4ed Film Adaptation Eyeing 2016 Release Who Should Play Elphaba and Glinda?
By Clayton Davis on January 10, 2015@@AwardsCircuit
Apparently, Davis thinks they are looking for both "witches" in the age range of 20's to 30's, from the ages of the actresses he listed in the article (Anne Hathaway, Anna Kendrick and Olivia Wilde included). The Tony award winner who did one of the Broadway witch roles is 8 years younger than Nicole; and Davis wrote that she is too old for the film role. (Kristin Chenowith did the other witch role on Broadway and I believe she is about Nicole's age).
But it makes sense that the ages of the actresses who play the witches will be up to Stephen Daldry the Director. And there is no information yet in the news on who is being considered by him. In the original film Wizard of Oz, though, the wicked witch of the west did not look to be young (not to my eyes). The good witch, yes, she may have been young, but not the bad witch. (Apparently, the Broadway play was based somewhat on Wizard of Oz, at least with the witches' names.)
