My pick would've been Emmy Rossum, who granted is 30 years old, but has such a European delicate look to her and resembles Belle so muchplus the voice of an angel. And I feel like Henry Cavill would've been a better choice for Gaston, but I'll reserve judgment until I see how Luke does.

Maybe 7 years ago or heck even 5 years ago I might agree, but alas Anne is too old for Belle now. Remember that Belle is suppose to be 17 years old (unless they raised her age for the film) and Emma still looks young enough to pull it off.

I think they took that part of her being 17 out of the equasion. It was true for the animated one, but I don't think her age will be mentioned her. However, Watson playing a 17 year old is a bit of a stretch, but I have seen far worse examples

She looks like Belle and can actually act and sing very well. Emma can not act and has manly figures. What the hell where they thinking when they casted her?

She is too old. Belle is supposed to be 17/19 and Anne could not pull that off. A sad fact is that women age quicker than men so whereas Dan Stevens can easily portray a man between 25 and 30, Anne cannot portray a women between 17 and 21.
I do, however, agree that when Anne was 25ish she would have been ideal for the role. Plus her accent in Becoming Jane was perfect.
Other actresses that would have be ideal are Jenna Coleman, Jessica Brown Findlay and Anna Kendrick.
To you, Baldrick, the Renaissance was just something that happened to other people, wasn't it?

The Prince's age is not very relevant as the majority of film he's a beast with an amplified voice to make him sound monstrous.

it's a bit unfair the argument only seems to go one way; for the guys their age doesn't matter because 'they don't have to be the same age' but for belle she must be young. Why can't belle be a little older aswell then if it doesn't matter. Aslong as she seems beautiful I guess.

And she doesn't mention it like Ariel did in The Little Mermaid but in the stage version it doesn't say as she just says "I'm not a child " !

Anyway those poor Belle wannabes are already so jealous of Emma Watson taking away their hopes of becoming her as this will affect and change how Belle must be portrayed in later stage productions!

I personally think emma watson might be a 'meh' choice, but screw it, that's my opinion. Those who are pumped to see it, good for you. But I do hate the idea someone would be chosen just because of their age, and it iiiiis a little typical such a young actress gets coupled with those golden oldies. I HOPE she got chosen for other reasons beside the age and harry potter gig.
