Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi : The reason for IMDb's decision

Re: The reason for IMDb's decision

Coming from the biggest troll around, that does make you a hypocrite.

Don't eat the whole ones! Those are for the guests.

Re: The reason for IMDb's decision

Our posting history proves otherwise.

come on, I know you can do better.

Re: The reason for IMDb's decision

I'd say I do a lot better in many things than you. Your posting history wouldn't even be worth reading.

Don't eat the whole ones! Those are for the guests.

Re: The reason for IMDb's decision

@racscal67.

I'd say I do a lot better in many things than you. Your posting history wouldn't even be worth reading.
You're very arrogant and self-righteous.

Re: The reason for IMDb's decision

Ohhhhhhh! I've been admonished by a moron. You're very idiotic and ignorant.

Don't eat the whole ones! Those are for the guests.

Re: The reason for IMDb's decision

@Rascal67,

Ohhhhhhh! I've been admonished by a moron. You're very idiotic and ignorant.
Great come back for a simpleton.

Re: The reason for IMDb's decision

Regarding yourself, you certainly have the simpleton part right. Idiot!

Don't eat the whole ones! Those are for the guests.

Re: The reason for IMDb's decision

@Rascal67, You really are a big dummy, aren't you? Probably because you have a small brain, it's science.

Re: The reason for IMDb's decision

landofree, why are you here ? why are you trolling ? why do you act so stupid ? is it attention you seek ?

Re: The reason for IMDb's decision

Ten years ago, I would have been shocked and dismayed. Five years ago, I would have been disappointed. The way things are now, I say good riddance. These boards are like the old neighborhood that used to be nice until the crappy new neighbors moved in and trashed the place. Now they're happy living in squalor while the rest are miserable or leave. Shut this place down and call it a day.

Re: The reason for IMDb's decision

Again, that is not the reason they did it.

Re: The reason for IMDb's decision

Message boards are fast becoming old hat. Startrek.com and Starwars.com got rid of message boards years ago and that was sad to me. This is the the final straw. Times are moving on

Re: The reason for IMDb's decision

They want to limit what people say to 140 vacuous characters and emojis, not to mention bozos and Cuckerberg want to spread propaganda.

Re: The reason for IMDb's decision

Yes, I totally agree. This is part of the problem. They're dumbing down the functions of message boards by abandoning them, restricting the format. Pushing people towards stuff like Twitter where communication is reduced to shoutouts, emojis, and hater taunts! All "progress" is not progress.

Re: The reason for IMDb's decision

right, because Youtube comments, Reddit, and places like Neogaf (gaming) are so dead.

Discussion forums aren't dead at all, its just some of the giant critic and review sites that don't want any influence from their users that are axing them. Its a matter of control. Anyone complimenting the removing of the boards because they're 'toxic' is absolutely naive if they believe that is the core reason that a corporate entity like IMDB/Amazon would remove them.

Re: The reason for IMDb's decision

Again, that is not the reason they did it.

Again, who cares? What he said is STILL the truth.

Re: The reason for IMDb's decision

If they think they're going to make money off this decision they are insane. This sites website traffic, which is what generates the money, will tank without message boards. IMDb will cease to exist.

IMDB will live on

{This site} will tank without message boards. IMDb will cease to exist.

Probably not.

Remember. What does IMDB stand for. "International Movie Data-Base."

People come to this site to research movies, the actors, and other works they've associated with; as well as upcoming movie news. As long as there are movie buffs, this site (on principle) will remain active to some degree.

Re: IMDB will live on

But the majority of their revenue comes from selling Ad space. Shutting down the boards will decrease web traffic and thus reduce Ad revenue.

Fear God and Dreadnought!

Re: The reason for IMDb's decision

then why did they do it in the first place

Re: The reason for IMDb's decision

Not sure how they figure they'll make more money with less visitors. It's not like they poured a lot of money into moderating this place anyway.

Perpetual outrage is the most popular religion today.

Re: The reason for IMDb's decision

Hell, they didn't even put any time into moderating the fckin' thing.

Re: The reason for IMDb's decision

I agree. I think the main reason is money. There is going to be trolls wherever you go which is why you can just use the ignore feature. Now some do get out of hand. I remember a few weeks ago some troll was writing about actresses getting raped by dogs. I think it was on this message board as well.

"Facts are necessary, without them you must remain silent."

Re: The reason for IMDb's decision

Maybe the cost of hosting them isn't justified by the amount of traffic they bring.

Perpetual outrage is the most popular religion today.

Re: The reason for IMDb's decision

Even if that's the only reason, it would still be based on money.

Re: The reason for IMDb's decision

Of course.

Perpetual outrage is the most popular religion today.

Re: The reason for IMDb's decision

a forum like this isn't expensive to maintain, its extremely basic (like circa 2000) and they have like no moderators (bots instead).

The reality is its to control things. They don't want people to be able to influence others in the comment discussions whether to go to a movie or rate a movie highly or lowly.

I guarantee this decision is related to their advertisers (cough movie companies) requesting it because sometimes people who don't like films convince others in the comments not to go see them

she fell through a hole, and was never seen again

There will still be user ratings. I pay a lot more attention to them than what any one person has to say about a movie.

Re: The reason for IMDb's decision

User ratings are not the voice on reason, since most of the raters don't have much sense of reasoning or understanding. Typical that a phony like you only skims the superficial facade, because anything someone has to say that doesn't coincide with your limited and sequestered outlook challenges you and you go into denial\avoidance mode. Are you really that shallow Ruby? Oh, sorry I forgot, you are a biased and warped feminist and a veiled homophobe to boot, who thinks that men owe you the world and it is all about sex with you. How base and slaggy!

Isn't it telling Luke, how RubyRuthless puts me on ignore, because she knows I am not interested in what she has on offer and can see right through her transparent charade, yet she still posts to you, because she thinks that she just might still excite you, because you are straight. She is the worst type of female that society has created and yet she feels she is acting in best interests of all. She is one of the most biased. self-serving, selfish and sexist females I have ever encountered on these threads and yet she thinks she should be respected just for being a phony feminist. What unbridled arrogance and conceit!

Don't eat the whole ones! Those are for the guests.

Re: The reason for IMDb's decision

Over a year of constant rants from manbabies about feminism is based on sexism, and we all know you and Rascal are misogynists.

Re: The reason for IMDb's decision

I don't understand. If you consider anything we say against the actions and choices of certain women (ie, feminists) to be hate speech, why are you bothering to respond at all? Are you trying to discuss like we're trying to do or are you just here to put up a fight?? If you're looking for a discussion, you could be a little more cooperative and a lot less arrogant.

Re: The reason for IMDb's decision

Agree.

Money.

For any business, not just IMDb. If you ever ask, "why would they do that?" It's always money.

I guarantee this decision is related to their advertisers (cough movie companies) requesting it because sometimes people who don't like films convince others in the comments not to go see them

Disagree.

There will still be user ratings. I pay a lot more attention to them than what any one person has to say about a movie

Unfortunately will the movie companies lose in the long run if they (tries?) to shut down the audience voice. Even if they dont admit it, they read this boards I mean, we pay their salary. A movie like Logan should normally be rated for kids, but now we can see a R-rating, something the movie moguls just could not have know that the audience wanted (I think Deadpool was their test movie). Some X-men movies flopped, some not. Why? Thats hard to say just by looking at the user ratings, but if one reads the comment board then at least one can have a clue. They have test audience but in the end only the free voice can give you the answers that you maybe not like, but will be the answer that you need to hear

Re: The reason for IMDb's decision

What about all the supposed "studio-plants" now then?

You guys just change your agenda on a brim.

-*Inserting random phrase by famous madman/idiot that makes me feel intelligent*-

Re: The reason for IMDb's decision

They will just migrate to Reddit.

Re: The reason for IMDb's decision

"What about all the supposed "studio-plants" now then?"

I'm sure some people get overly conspiratorial about such things as "plants", but if you honestly don't believe that multi-billion dollar organizations wouldn't want to talk-up their product, so more people will pay to see them, then you are just naive and don't understand business. They just have Jojo the idiot coffee boy go online and hype up their movies, posting as a random member of the public. No sweat off their back.

And so what's lost if they make deals to shut down these message boards full of negative people who are talking bad about their product? Nothing for them. They only gain. The studios get to reduce negative reviews, relocate people to the studio-owned social media pages AND Jojo the idiot coffee boy has more time to bring them coffeeor gets fired, to save even more money. And IMDb gets a whole bunch of money. So, what's lost? Our forum. We lose.

What about the loss of traffic that IMDb will lose by this. How many people were coming here for the message boards on a regular, if not daily basis? Sure, they will lose the traffic, but they've just gained $xxxxxx(?). I'm sure the money they will lose from visits to their website is far less than the money they just threw right back into the studio's stockwhich should hopefully go up now that there is a more positive outlook on their movies.

The internet is a business. Social media sites are advertising sites, with the public as the companies primary, unpaid marketers. These missing message boards will be replaced with more advertising. It's not conspiracy, it's fact. It's how this capitalist system works.

Re: The reason for IMDb's decision

If they do this then they are totally insane.

I think IMDb is gonna reconsider this nonsense.

I always tell the truth, even when I lie.

Re: The reason for IMDb's decision

It's possible, but I doubt it. One supporting event is when IMDb added emojis, but discarded the original emoticons. The backlash was so great that they brought the emoticons back.

Fear God and Dreadnought!

Re: The reason for IMDb's decision

That's exactly why I do think like this.

I always tell the truth, even when I lie.

Re: The reason for IMDb's decision

This sucks, I love reading other people's opinions about movies, you get intelligent responses sometimes that make you think. I want to hear from them not just official critics. I see what's meant by negativity just reading this single thread though.

Re: The reason for IMDb's decision

Money? Maybe, but the more direct reason is that probably 75% of the posts in any given day fall into the following categories:

This movie sucks and if you like it you're an idiot
This movie will suck and if you think it won't you're an idiot
This movie is incredible and if you disagree you're an idiot
This movie will be incredible and if you disagree you're an idiot
I'm not an idiot; you're an idiot
Jar Jar Abrams ruins everything
Christopher Nolan is a hack
Christopher Nolan is a god
Christopher Nolan is THE God
Director X used to be great but everything after that one movie has sucked
How dare that character be black/gay/Asian/female; SJW's must be stopped
How dare that character not be black/gay/Asian/female; racism/sexism/homophobia must be stopped
I hate SJW's, which means I like everyone not violently opposed to female Ghostbusters
I hate racists/sexists/homophobes, which means I do not like anyone violently opposed to female Ghostbusters
Once again, you suck and are an idiot
Marvel is kiddie
DC is clueless
Movie X, which seems to reg'lar folk to be, at worst, an entertaining time-waster, is the Worst Movie In the History of Things and an affront to all thinking humans
That low-budget, critically acclaimed sleeper horror hit from last year is overrated and if you like it you don't know horror
That low-budget, critically acclaimed sleeper horror hit from last year is a masterpiece and if you don't like it you don't know film

Etc etc. I've tried actually posting in low-traffic forums for older movies I love, and there's just no point. IMDB might actually be run by film lovers, and they've tired of being the go-to spot for petty people with petty gripes and weird fixations. I totally get it, though it is kind of a shame. Having on occasional online pillow fight with dicks or nerds can be fun. Oh, well.

Re: The reason for IMDb's decision

^^Indeed

I like the way Holden said it in "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back":

The Internet is a communication tool used the world over where people can come together to bitch about movies and share pornography with one another.

and

This is a site populated by militant movie buffs: sad, pathetic little bastards living in their parents' basement downloading scripts and what they think is inside information about movies and actors they claim to despise yet can't stop discussing.

Re: The reason for IMDb's decision

i think trolls are anyone who disagrees.

personally, i believe the reason the boards shut down is because actors and directors don't want to have the one place in their little world where "the people" discuss their flaws. they wanted a perfect life and without the imdb boards, they now have it.
